looking at you from afar, kenma grew curious of what was happening. so he waited till the next day for the answers he wanted to seek.
the next day came and kenma's curiosity only grew larger and larger. after class you all made your way to the usual spot, everything was the same but everything felt entirely different. your lit up mood and kuroo's unstoppable laughter.
it was after an eternity you all gathered like this and laughed your hearts out, kenma couldn't help but smile at his friends.
"is this kenma kozume smiling?" kuroo's eyes widened as he smirked.
"and his smirk is back." you thought, but this time, you smiled, seeing his smirk.
how could a person feel like this? it felt like looking at your entire universe within a person. no matter what he was doing, he looked perfect to you. he felt like home to you.
kenma shook his head as he sighed and everyone laughed.
"i need to talk to y/n for a moment." he, then looked at you.
"whaaat?" kuroo frowned.
"don't worry, i am not stealing her away nor enslaving her kuroo."
"we wanted to walk home together." he frowned and pouted his lips.
you let out a little laugh at his cuteness.
"do it any other day kuroo. she is my friend to begin with." kenma stuck out his tongue, in a teasing manner.
"and she's my girlfriend." kuroo looked like he was proud of what he said as he straightened his shoulders, smirked and looked at you, instantly making you blush.
everyone's eyes widened at what he just said, it took them a while to digest everything but once they did, everyone congratulated you and kuroo.
"i knew you could do this y/n" akaashi smiled.
"do what?" kuroo asked.
"secrets." you smirked and winked at him.
"you sly fox." he was looking at the way you were smirking at him. you were picking up his habits now.
"you scheming rooster." you sticked out your tongue.
"it's your turn now akaashi." you turned to akaashi with a serious yet a friendly face. he looks at bokuto and then to you. he quietly smiled at nodded.
"can we go now?" kenma poked your shoulders.
"sure, bye babe." you waved at kuroo when you knew he was expecting more.
ou both naturally walked to what was now your favourite spot. the field. it was empty at this time usually. so you found it relaxing and a place to reflect on yourself.
"i am sorry i told kuroo about that string thing. i couldn't see him that sad." kenma confessed.
"so what happened?" kenma asked, once you both sat down.
"kenmaaaa." you started.
"i have been so blind." you sighed.
"i was so scared that kuroo's string might end up with yachi so i never dared to look at it when we were alone, but i don't know since when but kuroo can see the threads too and, last night he told me to look at my fingers. turns out i am his soulmate." your voice was a little brittle at the word soulmate.
"i belong with kuroo. i am his soulmate kenma." you looked at him, with tears in your eyes. and he hugged you till you cried your tears of relief then you both made your way to the restaurant everyone was.
walking back to the restaurant, kenma realised that if yours ended with kuroo's that ultimately means, his ends with yachi. his heart stopped for a second at that fact.
he looked at his fingers but he couldn't see anything. when you opened the door, everyone was already at the counter with kuroo paying.
his eyes moved to yachi and yachi immediately moved her eyes elsewhere. that moment his world stopped. kenma's world stopped but his feet couldn't feel the ground. he grasped for air as he quickly turned around and walked out.
everyone walked out, talking and laughing and separated ways with akaashi and bokuto going home together, as they always did, kuroo went with you with his hands on your shoulders and yachi started to walk in the other direction.
"ya-ya-yachi!" kenma gathered the courage to call out her name and she turned around.
"can i walk you home?" he politely asked.
her eyes widened but soon settled as she replied with a quick nod.
the walk was silent. kenma mustered up the courage to ask that but he couldn't gather the courage to say another word. he felt like something gripping his neck, preventing him to say something. it might be his anxiety or his nervousness or maybe both but he couldn't find any words to form a sentence to speak.
little did he knew, yachi was sailing on the same boat. she wanted to say a lot, a lot of things but couldn't gather enough courage to say out loud. the silence felt like a wall between them, a glass wall. they were together but still apart.
"it's- it's for the first time." yachi finally decided to hammer that glass wall between them.
it not only startled kenma but also made him more nervous. "wh-wha-what do you mean?" his voice was almost a whisper carried by the wind to yachi's ears.
"you never talk to me." she smiled, almost sadly like she would cry any time now.
kenma might be awkward with words but his specialty was to understand the heart, the aura, the air between them. he noticed her almost- brittle voice.
he swallowed his own saliva, thinking what to say.
"you were always with kuroo-" he spoke.
"just so i could see you everyday." she cut him off.
"what?" his eyes widened, confused.
"i like you." kenma could hear her heavy breaths, could see her shaking hands and her confused eyes, trying to avoid kenma but at the same time looking at him.
how much courage would have it taken for her to confess to him. he felt a little embarrassed for not being the one confessing, his was speechless.
"you- you don't have to like me back. i just wanted to tell you how i fee-"
her words were interrupted with she felt his lips on hers.
he pulls apart, realising what he did. "are you okay with-"
yachi answered by pulling his head and kissing him back. and kenma couldn't help but smile.
