She studies the flower with rare intensity. Gingerly she touches one of the silky blue petals and lets her finger run along its edge. In the centre of the multilayered petal ring nestles a sparkling half globe. Somehow it reminds her of an insects faceted eye, back home.

Home - with a deep sigh she sits back, her former focus lost. She longs to be with her friends, visiting concerts, chatting after school. She hates this sterile box of a house, this desolate place with all its restrictions. She wishes her parents were back, or someone to talk to. Of course they have all the fun they want, exploring this place, while their teenage daughter is required to stay in the box, too young to be exposed to the dangerous environment. Or so they say.

She blinks back frustrated tears while she wonders once more where the flower came from. It grows straight from the blueish plastic floor in a sterile human habitation on a planet that is supposed to have no indigenous live at all. She keeps staring as the blossom sways slightly on its fragile stem.

Then it blinks its single eye several times in an almost conspirational way.
