Countdown (Hanji Zoe x Leavi Ackerman)

Chapter 9

Hanji's Pov

Moblit and I had gone to the cinema. We both had ordered Pop Corn as we sat in our seats. We watched quietly during the movie. Despite the fact that it was a science fiction, it had some scary scenes. I got really scared and used Moblit's arm. He laughed every time I did it. The movie lasted two and a half hours or so. When we exited the building, it was already nightfall. We were walking on a nearby park, talking about the movie while trying to find an empty bench as well. When we found one and sat down, and awkward silence followed.

"Hanji I..." Moblit said as he looked at me and scratched his neck awkwardly. I looked at him and our eyes connected. His lips were partially parted as if my eyes enchanted him. He mumbled my name again while I kept looking into his eyes, trying to feel the same warmth, the same certainty. It just didn't feel right. His loving eyes were fixed on my light brown ones. He leaned in, however I didn't. My phone interrupted us. I quickly took it out of my bag and checked the lit screen. It was an unknown number. Moblit glanced at the screen as well. I didn't pick it up. Instead I placed it in back in my bag. I apologized to Moblit who smiled awkwardly. However, after a few seconds it started ringing again. I looked at the screen and saw the same unknown number. Turns out the person who called had called another five times, during the movie. But my phone didn't ring since it was on flying mode. I apologized to Moblit and explained the situation. He smiled as I answered it.

"Is this Hanji Zoe?" A somewhat familiar male voice said

"Yes, that's me. Who is this?" I asked surprised.

"I'm Erwin Smith, Levi's employer. I don't know if you remember me." He said.

"Yeah, I remember you. Did something happen?" I asked worried.

"Levi got in an accident with his bike. Apparently, he was hit by a car." Erwin said anxiously. He tried to hide it, but I could detect it.

I was silent. My heartbeat started increasing as I started thinking the worse. I felt like I lost the earth under my feet. My thoughts were banging against my head. I couldn't think straight. Millions of questions started coming on my mind: How could this happen? Was it Levi's fault? He couldn't have done it on purpose, could he? Was he okay? How is he now...

Levi was in a hospital in who knows what state while I was out on a date. Moblit noticed that something was wrong and placed his hand on my shoulder interrupting my thoughts. I heard Erwin's faint voice again and put my phone near my ear.

"Where is he?" I asked worryingly. Erwin gave me the address. Fortunately, he was in the hospital where my parents work. I closed the phone and got up. Moblit followed me. I explained the situation and he offered to drive me there. However, he was gloomy. We didn't speak at all during the ride which lasted about ten minutes.

When we arrived, I thanked Moblit who nodded with a weak smile on his face. I got out and run to the hospital. I walked inside. David, the front desk secretary smiled when he saw me. However, he saw my worried face and asked me what had happened. I asked for Levi. He told me that there was indeed a guy who was in an accident with his motorbike. He then told me that he was in the E.R. I thanked him and headed straight to the E.R. When I was about to turn to a corner my legs gave out and I fell to the ground.

"Damn it, not now!" I yelled irritated. I tried to get up but failed. A nurse passed, saw me on the ground and quickly helped me out. It was Hanna, my mother's friend. She quickly checked to see if I was alright and yelled for a wheel chair. With the help of another nurse, she placed me on it. I told her that I wanted to go to the E.R. and she quickly took me there. I saw Erwin sitting in the chair his hands crossed. At first, he didn't look up while Hanna and I passed, however when I stopped in front of him, he noticed me surprised.
