When the Pandavas departed for Swargalok, they put their entire kingdom in the hands of Parikshit, son of Abhimanyu. During the reign of King Parikshit all subjects were happy. Once King Parikshit went to play the game in the forest, then he saw a sage named Shamik there. He was engrossed in his penance and kept a silent fast. When the king tried to speak to him several times and found him silent, he got angry and put a killed snake in the throat of the sage. When Shringi, son of sage Shamik, came to know about this, he cursed King Parikshit that seven days from today, King Parikshit will die due to the bite of Takshak Nag. While living in King Parikshit, there was not so much courage in the Kali Yuga that he could dominate, but only after his death Kali Yuga came to dominate the whole earth.
