New Beginnings [Iwazumi X Reader]

A Restless night

It's been a crazy week, ever since you had Iwa and Oikawa over for dinner you three have gotten significantly closer. It's a quiet Saturday night, the moon shines through the cracks of the blinds, you lay still on your bed staring up into the darkness.

It's been a whole week but you couldn't get rid of this feeling you get whenever you think about Iwaizumi. You can't stop thinking about him and the very thought of him make your chest feels heavy and a lump appears in your throat. You turn over to check your phone, -1:47 am-

"Of course I can't sleep.." you continue to stare up to your ceiling and shut your eyes in attempts to fall asleep. The pitter-patter of rain hits your bedroom window, as peaceful as it sounds it doesn't help with your restlessness.

"..."

You let out a deep sigh sitting up pulling your phone off of the charger, after scrolling mindlessly on multiple social media apps. You open your contacts, scrolling past all the contacts until you stop at a certain name

Iwaizumi, Hajime

You examine his contact info, "Would he even be awake if I text him?"

You hover your finger over the text option "I mean we're friends but wouldn't it still be weird to text him this late?" You lay back onto your bed frustrated over your indecisiveness closing your eyes you lay for a minute, extending your arms to your sides.

".. Hello... F/N?"

Your eyes open flew open as your hand brings your phone to your face

"H-Hi sorry I didn't mean to call you, I just couldn't sleep" you manage to explain

"It's alright.." you can hear the grogginess in his deep voice

"I-I'll let you go back to sleep! Sorry for bothering you.."

"Wait...If you can't sleep, you can talk to me" hearing his sleepy voice through your phone makes your heart beat a little faster

"I just feel bad waking you up when it's so late" you whisper

You hear him let out a small laugh

"Trust me, hearing you whisper in my ear is better than sleeping"

You feel your face getting hotter hearing him say those words

"So... you could've called anyone tonight, why me?"

You can hear the smile on his lips as he says that, you pause trying to think of the right words.

"If I'm being honest... I couldn't stop thinking about you" you blurt out staring up to your ceiling once again

"..." you're met with silence at your response, your eyes flutter closed waiting to either hear his response or the sound of dial tone.

"You're an idiot" you hear him laughing on the other end

"Hey! if this was a confession I would be heartbroken hearing a response like that" you pout flustered at his reaction

"Well is it?"

"Is it what?"

"Is this a confession?" the seriousness in his voice catches you off guard

"Definitely not, I didn't say I liked you" you laugh

"Oh, of course, you're only constantly thinking about me" he lets out a light laugh, you feel butterflies hearing him laugh so much

The two of you are quiet for a while, listening to the slow breaths of the other. The sound of rain hitting the roof becomes relaxing, any feeling of restlessness has disappeared. You continue to talk about random things, the stars, Shittykawas obsession with aliens, embarrassing moments.

"F/N?"

"Yeah?"

"Are you busy tomorrow?"

"That came out of nowhere"

"But no I don't have any plans"

"I have no training tomorrow, so would want to hang out?"

"... like a date?"

"Would you want it to be a date?"

"I'd be lying if I said I didn't" you laugh

"I'll come by around 1 pm then?"

"Sounds like a plan Iwa-chan~"

"You should get some sleep, I'll see you tomorrow F/N"

"Goodnight Iwa-chan"

"Goodnight"

You end the call smiling at the ceiling, the butterflies you feel and your beating heart is too much to handle. You turn on your side stuffing a pillow to your face to muffle your excited squeals. Stretching out you let out a deep sigh, unable to stop your smiling face. You close your eyes excited for a new day " A date with Iwaizumi huh" your eyes gently close as you drift off to sleep.

Iwaizumi's POV

"...like a date?" he's surprised at the how blunt F/N was

"Would you want it to be a date?" His face flustered pink at his response

"I'd be lying if I said I didn't" she laughs on the other end, his heart skips a beat hearing F/N's reply

Okay now don't sound like an idiot Iwaizumi thinks to himself

"I'll come by around 1 pm then?"

"Sounds like a plan Iwa-Chan~" he covers his face with his free hand hearing his stupid nickname being used by F/N doesn't sound so stupid but instead sound better when she says it.

"You should get some sleep, I'll see you tomorrow F/N"

"Goodnight Iwa-chan"

"Goodnight"

She hangs up the phone and he lays his arms out to his sides, hearing how fast his heart is beating was embarrassing. His thoughts race back to what F/N said "I'd be lying if I said I didn't". His hands make their way to cover his face, as a smile widens across his face. After being around Shittykawa for so long, he forgot what it felt like to have someone who was genuinely interested in him. Especially after being used as a way for people to get closer to Shittykawa

"Who would have thought that something as small as an accidental call could change my whole mood." He closes his eyes as he listens to the patter of rain hit against his window, thinking back to the conversations that just occurred and F/N's small laughs. He falls back into a deep sleep this time with a certain person in mind, ready for another new day
