For at least eleven years, Kaylin Thomas had worked her way up in SHIELD. It wasn't easy and she wasn't trusted, but she made it to where she was now; a level-five agent.

Working a desk job where she files away the mission papers field agents bring in, the woman could work on her secret investigation without being disturbed about it. It wasn't weird for a desk-agent to look into files, unfortunately it was when the only files one was looking at were those of the nineties.

The nineties. . .

That's when everything took a turn in Kaylin's life. From the way her father's old boss passed away, to where her childhood friend left without a word. And when her father died, the woman made it her life's goal to finish what he had started; the investigation on the car accident that he didn't believe was an accident.

After trying to hack into SHIELD to get access to classified files, Nick Fury used one of his agents to recruit the woman into his organization, hoping she could aid him in the long run. With the right training, Kaylin became a great ally within SHIELD.

Having been picked up by SHIELD, Kaylin knew she had to be careful. Not using her real name, she accepted Agent Phil Coulson's invitation and followed him to the one place she could train herself to learn more, to find answers; Communications Academy.

Coulson looked over Kaylin as a big brother would his sister, and the two remained as close as family. But he doesn't know about the side mission Kaylin is on, nor the questions she holds.

Walking through the room filled with cubicles, Fury glanced at where Kaylin had her feet up. "Feet off the desk, Agent Thomas!" He commanded and strolled on.

"Sorry, sir." Kaylin swung her feet down and rolled her chair closer to where her stack of papers laid.

Stopping for a second at the end of the room, the male turned to look at the dyed brunette. "Follow me." He didn't wait and walked out, fully knowing his agent would follow him eventually.

Looking over the wall of her cubicle, Agent Melinda May eyed her friend. "That can't be good." She stated. "What do you think it's for?"

"No clue." Kaylin shrugged while quickly making her cubicle look cleaned up before walking to the door. "But I'm sure I'll find out soon."

"Good luck!" May called after her, and was answered with a thumb being stuck in the air.

Entering her boss' office, Kaylin tilted her head in confusion. She was called to Fury's office before, but she would know why, unlike this time. "Sir?"

"Close the door." Fury instructed and waited for the woman to take a seat before he threw a file on his desk. "Agent Thomas, can you explain to me why you want access to a certain classified file from the nineties?"

Paling slightly, she tried to come up with a good lie. "I- Sir, I-" Nothing sounded good in her head, but she knew she had to say something.

"You're a level-five agent, Thomas." Fury interrupted the woman her stammering. "You have no clearance for that file."

"I know, sir, but I have to look into those to know where to file the new ones I've been given." Kaylin tried to explain. It wasn't her first time lying to her boss, but it was the first time it had to be because of herself.
