Daeus' POV
It took a week and three days for me to warm up to the Acolbi tribe. Everyone here was so warm and welcoming that I felt like I could belong here. While I wasn't able to be in a high position, the role I was put in was relaxing and easy, something my body knew that I needed. My muscles had just felt so tense and overworked that tending to the fields was something I could actually enjoy.
Vri often accompanied me if he wasn't with Vrillyn and most of the nights, I slept out in the feild. The nights here were so quiet and peaceful that I didn't know if it was comforting or disturbing. Most of the Vrox avoided me, giving me space to work and move around without running into anyone. Yet they all accepted me into their tribe and helped me with anything I needed help with. Even Vrillyn was starting to come around.
She'd bring me something to drink in the middle of the day or make sure I wasn't getting cold during the nights. The more time I spent around Vri, the more time I spent around her and she started to show a soft side. Yet there was still something hiding behind her eyes everytime she looked at me.
If I was being honest, I could almost fit in here. I could almost find my place and home here. Everything was calm and serene. The Vrox were a very lovely race of people. For them, having a foreigner willingly volunteer to work just to stay with them was unheard of.
"Daeus," Vri's voice stirred me from my thoughts. Currently, I was resting inside of Vri's hut. Despite spending most of his time with Vrillyn and actually having a room over there, he had his own home. Sometimes it was nice to escape inside his home and just relax. "The first Vrox planet, Burning Sphere was able to reach back to us."
As I said . . . almost. I couldn't forget that I had a home out there somewhere. Someone was missing me and I was missing them. Vri and Vrillyn couldn't be my family and the Acolbi tribe couldn't be my home. I sighed. "What did they have to say?"
"Well, Cera still hasn't reached back to them, but they can offer up one of their ships for travel. It won't be able to take us all the way to your home, but it'll get us closer and from there, whever we end up, we'll find your home."
"Us?" I asked. They were going to give me a ship to take back to my home? They'd do that for me?
Vri nodded, sitting beside me. "Vrillyn and I offered to go with you. We want to make sure you get to your home safely. You may not remember your family, but there is one out there for you." I frowned. There was, but . . . I couldn't remember them. What was the point of searching for people I couldn't even remember?
"You look conflicted?" Vri stated, well . . . his words ended in a question. Maybe he was confused. I was confused. I didn't know what I wanted. It was peaceful here and I could fit in. I could live a happy life here. But there were others out there looking for me, waiting for me to come back home to them.
"What if you're wrong? What if there's no one out there waiting for me?" My voice cracked and my head started to throb. Just saying something like that hurt me more than I could have imagined. The name that had been circling around my head ever since I woke up came racing back to me. There was someone out there, I knew there was. But I was scared. What if they didn't remember me? What if this person didn't want me anymore. How would any of this be right or feel right if they'd moved on? I wouldn't even know who they were aside from their name.
The male smiled. "You have someone out there waiting for you. Your kind mate for life and are born knowing who that person is and always loving that one special person just for you. But you also have something else. You have a bond like no other. The little information I've been able to look up about your kind tell of a bond stronger than the strongest forces in the world, a bond incapable of breaking or being replaced." He sounded envious and his eyes shown as if imagining having all that for himself. I bet it was nice to know who you were supposed to love, knowing who would always be there for you and have your back. "So yes, you do have at least one person out there who's waiting for your return. There's at least one person out there who would kill to have you back in their life."
"He's right," Vrillyn's voice startled the both of us. I looked over to see her hanging through the open window, resting her head on her arms. "You do have a mate, I've met her. Very beautiful and even at such a young age when I met her, very wise. I bet she's dying to have you back in her hold, back in her life."
Vrillyn sounded sad, but happy at the same time. At her words, maybe I could have been a little hopeful. But the gaping abyss inside of my heart didn't even sparkle at the mention of my mate. "What was her name?" I asked, hoping Vrillyn remembered and hoping it was the name I remembered.
"It started with a Y. Yupo I think. Or it could have been Yarrow. I'm not too sure." The female titled her head to the side, studying me. "Why? Do you remember something?"
Sadly, I shook my head. "None of it rings a bell. I have this deep hole inside of me like a peice of me has been torn from my body and lost in the yawning mouth of space. Maybe I'm just being over sensitive, but . . . I don't know if I'm ready to go." I looked down, feeling ashamed that I wasn't sure I wanted to leave Crater Sphere. "I'm scared of what I'll find if I return."
"You have two days to decide. That's when the ship will arrive. Vri and I will accompany you on your journey, but it's up to you if you want to go or not. You're an adult so you can make these decisions." Vrillyn's voice had gone cold, as if she disagreed with everything I'd just said. "But there is someone out there who needs you whether it be your mate or not. Only you can decide if your heart is worth pursuing."
Vrillyn left, allowing the sunlight to flow back, unbroken, into the hut. Vri leaned into my side, his presence comforting me only in the smallest of amounts. "She's right you know." He whispered, soft purring emitting from his chest.
"I know," I said back, looking over at the cat to see him drifting off into sleep. My heart pounded as if I'd just run a race and my head throbbed. Was it worth it to go? Was this feeling inside of me worth pursuing?
