Jack POV
"You Bradford Mannor?"
The man glared at me. "Whos askin?"
"I'm a friend of Diem Glaspy. She needs ya help."The other taller man started talking. "Do you know her? Is she okay? We didn't see her this morning."
Both grew worried.
"Oh yeah, I'm Jack Kelly."
"Bradford Manor, obviously, and this is Milo."
I quickly explained the problem.
"Okay lets go."
We quickly got up and headed outside.Race jogged up to us as we made it outside.
"Oh look it's the Racer." Bradford said.
"Oh look it's dese guys, come on Kathy's waitin on us." He said gesturing down the street."Jesus Race slow down you ain't gonna die if you don't see 'er every hour." I said as he started off again.
He forced his pace down to match mine.
"'M just anxious."Eventually we made it to Jacobi's, where Katherine and Diem were sitting in a booth, sipping at steaming drinks.
Diem was wearing what I assumed was one of Katherines old dresses."Mornin ladies." I said as I slid onto the bench next to Katherine.
Race sat down next to Diem, who took his hand immediately.
'Good morning boys' she signed at Milo and Bradford.
They smiled at her and took their seats across from each other."Katherine Pulitzer I assume?"
Katherine nodded "Nice to meet you Mr. Mannor."
Diem held up an envelope 'it's the court order'
Bradford took the envelope and pulled out the paper from inside reading it.
"Okay I want to hear everything, from the beginning."Diem began to sign, pretty quickly, with Race translating for Katherine and I to understand.
'Well I had never really known Samson cause he was living somewhere else till mom and dad died when I was six, when they died he was supposed to be my guardian but I think he was using me for the money from the state cause as soon as he moved back to the house he started ignoring me and stopped me from going to school and when I asked questions he would hit me and yell at me and it went on for 6 years, after 3 of them he moved us to the city and I never got to leave the apartment, and then after another three years there was a fire, and I barely made it out and they figured Samson was dead so they sent me to the refuge, and things were even worse there and' Race stopped talking as Diem stopped tears forming in the corners of her eyes.He wrapped an arm around her shoulders, rubbing at the top of her arm soothingly.
'And so many bad things happened but eventually I managed to sneak out but I didn't make it far when Oscar and morris found me and beat me, then Jack found me, remembered me and brought me back to the lodging house where we said I was a boy and eventually I told Mush and Blink and then a while later Race found out the truth and then later the strike happened and then a few days ago Samson came back and last night he tried to take me from the lodging house he got the police involved and they said it was up to a judge.'
Milo gave her a slightly apologetic smile.
"Well, theoretically this case is will wrap itself up easily, but if we don't have any actual evidence that Mr. Glaspy is unfit to be your guardian; it will wrap in his favor."Agitation was clear in Races voice "Ain't Diems word enough proof?"
"Well, if Diem herself is not actually doing the talking, I doubt the judge will listen."Diem looked down dejected.
"What if someone else was there translating sign?" I already knew I was grasping at straws.
"Well, maybe, but it's doubtful.""While Kid Blink, Mush Meyers and Race here all know sign they could be the ones to translate." Katherine said after taking another sip of tea.
"That couldn't be, you're all too close to the case, and considering you are going to be partial to one side of the case its possible the jury would think you could be lying."
