Chapter 6 - Healing

I gulp. What does she mean by that? Coral walks away without a second glance. I am bewildered.

"What just happened?" Asks Oakley.

"I'm not sure." I say, realizing I'm not on my feet. I stand up quickly, and laugh. I look around and realize there are almost enough people to start the game. Oakley looks at me with a fixed frown.

"What?" I say to him.

"I just...I don't know. I don't like that girl." He sighs. I wonder why. I shrug at him, not wanting to say anything else.

Feelings surge through me. I shiver, crossing my arms. Oakley places his hand on my shoulder.

"We can do this." He exclaims, smiling at me with a concerned smile.

This time it's genuine. I watch as the girl, Coral, examines her nails.

Without warning, the room suddenly flashes and turns black. All sounds have been blocked. I can't hear anything. "You are a Crewmate." I hear, the voice ringing through my ears. My head starts to hurt as the voice diminishes. There is a blinding light and I am on the map.

"Welcome to the Skeld." Says a voice. Usually, we would all appear on the map in different places. Today, we are all standing around the cafeteria table. Most people look around at each other, confused. Others don't do anything. "Why are we here?" Someone asks.

Oakley slowly backs away. After a while, so does everyone else. We slowly separate. What happened? I think. I break out into a run and uncrumple the tasks in my hand. "Darn." I mutter to myself. "Three tasks in Electrical." I start with my other tasks, giving side looks to any people I see.

I almost forget that Yellow is Oakley. While I am doing tasks, people inch near me. My anxiety spikes. I am in the middle of doing the Chart Course when a body is reported. I sigh and walk to the cafeteria. Oakley is already there, one of arms clutching the other one tightly.

"Where?!" Orange yells, running in. They are panting violently.

"In Electrical." Says Navy Blue, their voice cool. I am relieved I didn't go to Electrical before.

"Did you see anyone?" I ask, my voice cracking. "Actually, I did." Navy's voice twists to mischief. "I saw Green standing above the body."

Everyone gasps. Green starts stuttering. "N-no!!! It was a mistake! I-I had just- just GOTTEN THERE!!!" He rages, his hands clenched into fists.

"That's really suspicious." Says White. Everyone agrees. The voting screen pops up in front of us. I confirm that I want to vote Green. He panics, sputtering out fragments of words.

He received the most votes.

Purple and White push him into the space capsule. I cross my fingers. He is launched into space. He keeps floating until we can't see him anymore. The game doesn't end. I clutch my throat. Everyone looks around at each other. I run away, back to Navigation. I shake my head. "Just finish your tasks." I repeat over and over in my head. A few more rounds go by. I still haven't gone to Electrical. I'll have to go eventually.

I pass by Oakley a few times. We don't interact. I finish all of my tasks outside of Electrical. I take a deep breath and start heading that way. I look behind me, making sure no one is following me.

Suddenly, someone runs out of Electrical, screaming. "Oakley?!" I say. He runs up to me, grabs my hand, and pulls me with him.

"Navy blue!" He yells. "It's him! He vented into Electrical and killed someone right in front of me!" It is a second before I process what he has said. With a loud crash, someone else comes running out of Electrical, a crowbar in hand. I gasp loudly and start running at the same pace as Oakley. As if manually, we run towards the Emergency meeting button.
