Second Chance

Chapter 8

They were locked up for six days when they decided they should let everyone know that they were still alive. Gabe would spent few hours every day in his office to catch up with his work and Gabby would preoccupy herself with whatever she found entertaining at the time. She called her office few times and checked her emails regularly and everything was all right while she was away. She was surprised she didn't miss work or worried more about it.

Gabe was taking her out for a dinner that night and she went back to her house to get ready. She showered and blow-dried her hair, letting it fall down in cascades over her shoulders, applied minimum amount of makeup just to accentuate her features and choose a dark blue slinky, sexy,  one-shoulder draped mini dress that had billowed sleeve with contrast silky trims. She put on gold large chandelier earrings and gold bracelet that Gabe gifted her years ago.  Golden strappy wedges and a small clutch in same color completed the look. She looked at herself in the mirror and was really pleased with the way she looked. Knock at the door made her look at it as she turned towards it and said "Come in!"

Nick walked into her room and whistled appreciatively as he sat on the edge of her bed

"Damn sis, you look great. What are you trying to do, give a poor guy a heart attack and kill him?"

"Who? Gabe?"

"No, Marco Polo. Who the heck do you think I was referring to?"

"Nick, trust me, if he didn't get a heart attack during this past week with me he will survive me tonight or any other time" There was a moment of silence and then Nick looked at her with serious look on his face

"Gabby, what are you doing?" he asked then, even tone and sounding serious

"I am getting ready for a dinner with Gabriel. Why?" she gave him that 'I don't know what you mean' look; but she knew exactly what he meant and she did not want to deal with him or that now. The way Nick looked at her and from the tone of his voice she realized that whether she wanted it or not she will have to deal with it right now and talk to him. She was older than Nick, but since their parents passed away Nick kind of took the responsibility for her in certain things. It all comes back down to what Gabe explained to her about men from place where they come from. She was his sister, he was protective of her.

They always had close relationship, talked openly and honestly with each other about everything, and after their parents were gone their relationship became even closer, even though they lived on the opposite sides of the world.

Nick felt that he needed to have this conversation with her now after he told her the reason why he insisted she come visit them. In a way he felt responsible for getting her and Gabe together, whether it is a good or not such a good thing, and he hoped for a great thing because he cared for both of them. He had not seen her in a week and judging by the way two of them are going at it he might not get so see much of her, so all joking aside he said

"That's not what I meant and you know it. Gabby, he has been in love with you his whole life. Do you understand that?" he looked straight into her eyes and Gabby saw the worry there

"You are worried" she stated it "Why?"

"I don't want to see you hurt and I don't want to see him hurt either because after so many years of him loving, yearning and wanting you, he might turn controlling and possessive now that he's got you and I know that is not what you want or would put up with. I saw the way he looks at you and how he is around you sis. If you fall for him hard, which I believe you are on the right way there, you will not put up with his control and possessiveness and you will walk away from him, no matter how much you love him or how much he loves you. It will hurt you and it will destroy him Gabby" Nick finished. Gabby looked at her brother, turning serious too. He knows her really well.
