The people are hungry, THEY needed to feed them. And since the people will not be choosy on what type of food is presented to them, THEY were not that choosy either. May it be raw, half-cook, or spoiled, who cares. As long as the hunger was stopped for the mean time, it doesn't matter. The sad part is that, good food is a rarity of what the people are being fed. Naturally, the society is poisoned. But at the end of the day, THEY are the heroes, they saved the world.
*I'm not generalizing THEM. And I'm not telling who THEY are.
