● Lontara ●
Lontara is a Brahmic script, originating from the Brahmi script of ancient India, used in the island of Sulawesi, located in Indonesia. It's used for the languages of Bugis, Makassasere, and Mandar. Lontara is also sometimes called Bugis, as many of the manuscripts found in Lontara are written in Bugis.
Although it was largely replaced in the 1800's by the Latin alphabet due to Dutch colonization, it's occasionally still used today.
The name 'Lontara' is derived from the Malay name of a species of Palm trees, lontar, as the palm tree leaves are traditionally used for manuscripts.
