Raven's pov
I woke up, or so I thought because it was pitch black, but I knew I had opened my eyes. I started thinking I had died yesterday. But I felt a familiar hand on my arm, and I spoke, "Apple, what happened to me." I felt her hand stroke my hair. "You fell off your dragon, and the claws scratched you. They did their best, but they could not save your sight." My words fell dead on my tongue, and for the first time since the dragon games, I felt hopeless. I started to cry tears that felt like dragon fire burning on my ice-cold skin.
No, this can't be happening!! My inner voice roared like a dragon in a cage, thrashing and spitting twisted words in dragon tongue, a language I learned so many years ago.
I reached my hand up to my face as I felt the bandaged gashes Nevermore's claws had left. I grip Apple's hand tightly as I cry.
