The Definition of Insanity

I'm walking my hometown streets, the ones I used to know so well;
Without you by my side, a heaven becomes hell.
Out of my control; a dagger dives deep into my veins;
Spilling poison into my heart; poison is better than this pain.
I don't know who I am without you with me;
And I'll forever try to get you back, even if my story becomes the new definition of insanity.

Do you know who I was before love?
I was an immaculate, stainless white dove.
Flying so high, some may say, too high;
But, that's just how life goes, I was that guy.
The man with the oversized sweater, the odd one, the other;
The man who you'd happily bring home to your mother.
I had it all and in one fateful evening; I lost it like my temper;
And that's something I know I'll regret forever.

I'm walking my hometown streets, the ones I used to know so well;
Without you by my side, a heaven becomes hell.
Out of my control; a dagger dives deep into my veins;
Spilling poison into my heart; poison is better than this pain.
I don't know who I am without you with me;
And I'll forever try to get you back, even if my story becomes the new definition of insanity.

Haunted by a life that was simply not worth living;
I hopped on a train in the hopes of finding some kind of new beginning.
I vanished into thin air like a ghost ship of folklore;
Never to be seen again, a whim of wonder.
I woke up in a town where I couldn't pronounce it's name;
And, that's when I knew, I had lost this game.
I was hoping my poetry could one day guide me;
I was hoping that you would one day find me.

But it couldn't;
And you wouldn't.
So I'll return to my forgotten hometown streets, where I will quietly admit defeat;
And enter the dictionaries as the new definition of insanity.
