Sup guys, I'm back, a little later than I planned but not gone. I don't really have much to say, just that it's like the last week of the semester so everything's hitting at once. Sorry!

Anyways, here's the story.

Varian sat there, staring at what he just wrote. Excited. Really excited. He'd translated part of the incantation! With this, he could actually test his powers purposefully instead of accidentally! This was definitely exciting. But also a bit worrying.

What if I can't control it? What if I hurt someone? What if I destroy something? I don't want to take a chance on hurting anyone or anything in Corona, I mean, I'm already on the last straw. Using an army of automatons probably wasn't the best idea...but that's in the past. This is the present. I gotta focus on the now, not the then.

Varian sat there staring and thinking, nodding at his internal dialogue as it went on.

I can't create a hypothesis without data and I can't test the hypothesis without an experiment. Time to follow the greatest process ever, the Scientific Method!!! (He's really excited about this lol)

He then jumped up out of his seat, stuffing his journal, his messy translation key, and other various items that he need into his bag, before throwing it around his shoulder and running towards the stairs up to the castle. Ruddiger scurried behind him.

"C'mon Ruddiger!" Varian yelped in excitement. "We're gonna go tell the princess what we're found!" Ruddiger hurried his pace, reaching Varian and hopping on his shoulder.

Rapunzel was waiting patiently for Eugene to come down from his room. They were going to have so much fun! She was excited to tell him about their plans for the day. She had overheard Attila the other day when searching for Quirin that he was going to have a baking competition. Rapunzel was definitely going to enter. She would team with Eugene and they would bake together!

Finally, after what felt like an hour, but was really only like 10 minutes, Eugene strolled through the doors to the dining hall.

"Alrighty princess, I'm here. What did you want to tell me?" Eugene asked.

"Eugene!" Rapunzel said happily. "We're going to have so much fun today!"

Eugene looked at her, smiling, and walked over to give her a hug.

"Right. So, what's our agenda?" He asked.

Rapunzel looked up at him excitedly. "We're going to compete in a baking competition!"

...

"A baking competition?" Eugene asked, sounding a bit worried. "Like, to bake something?"

"Yes silly, we'll bake something. Attila is hosting it at his shop! I already signed us up! We're on the same team!" Rapunzel responded, not noticing his worried tone. She was bouncing up and down, obviously excited. Eugene couldn't rain on her parade, so ultimately, he sighed, and once again smiled at her.

"Sounds like fun! I'm glad I have you on my team though princess, heavens know that the only thing I can bake are cupcakes, and that's with help!" He said.

"Well, don't worry Eugene, we'll be great! We'll make lots of yummy treats!" Rapunzel responded in an assuring tone, before grabbing his hand, and heading out the dining hall towards the castle gates.

~~~
Varian was running through the castle, trying to find Rapunzel.
"Rapunzel! Princess Rapunzel!" He shouted through the large, empty halls, hearing nothing but his own echo.
Where is she? Maybe she's busy, maybe she's doing something important, maybe I'm being a nuisance... nevermind that, I wanna tell her what I've found!
He continued running through the halls, Ruddiger holding onto his shoulder tightly to not be blown away. Varian looked every which way, searching for the princess or Eugene, or anyone who may know where she was.
Eventually, after some time just running around in circles, he gave up.
"I guess *pant* that she's *pant* busy with something *pant*." He said out loud. Ruddiger relaxed his grip on Varian's shoulder, then also began panting, from the exhaustion of his grip. Varian noticed his fuzzy friend, and gave him some water.
"Sorry 'bout that buddy." He laughed as his furry companion gulped down the water. "Anyways, I guess the princess is out and about somewhere. I guess I can begin my experiments alone. I'll let Rapunzel know what I've found when I see her."
~~~

Rapunzel arrived at Attila's shop, Eugene in tow.

"Attila! We're here for your bake-off!" Rapunzel squealed.

"Ah, princess! I'm surprised to see you here! How'd you even know I was hosting this? I only told a few people!" Attila greeted.

"I overheard you the other day when we were searching for Quirin. I'm interested in entering if possible. Eugene as well, we're a team!" Rapunzel explained.

"Well of course! I'll enter you right in! It doesn't start for another 4 hours though princess, so I guess you can spend the time preparing for it." Attila said. Rapunzel nodded in response, then dragged Eugene further into the town to gather ingredients and ideas.

~~~
Varian gathered the rest of the things he thought he might need for his experiments. His flasks, burner, various chemicals, extra gloves, Ruddiger's goggles, and sheets upon sheets of paper.
"There we go! I don't think I'll need anything else." He said proudly. Ruddiger nodded, jumping onto Varian's shoulder once again, and placing his goggles on his head. Varian smiled at his friend, then set off towards his experimentation site.
The site was a large open field, directly behind where Attila and Monty's shop was located. Attila would often throw out unnecessary grain into the field, and some had started to grow. He liked the spot because one, it smelled nice around the bakery, and two, it was a relatively safe area that he could use to experiment.  He was excited to begin.
Varian set up everything he thought he'd need at the site, even getting a couple buckets of water that he could throw at himself or have Ruddiger dump on him if he lost control, like he had to do that one time for Rapunzel. He didn't want to take a chance on hurting someone. Then, after completing his set up, he studied the incantation until he had it memorized, and got ready to begin.
He stood up, walking towards the center of the field, closed his eyes, and recited the first lines of the incantation.
"Stars that gleam and glow,
Shining in the night,
Illuminate this path,
And burn, forever bright."
And with that, Varian set off a string of events, unknowingly, that would change his life, and the lives of all who were close to him.
