It hurt in a way he forgot to notice.
But then again.
It wasn't the first time Jason got punched in the face.
Sure he used to notice it.
If he had time he'd check for blood.
But Jason was different now.
He had died.
So when he got hit in the face, or any part of his body for that matter.
The pain was an after thought.
In the back of his mind, a dull ache.
Damian had it too.
Jason felt bad for the kid, at times.
He was so young, but so was Jason when he died.
Although he and Damian never talked about it. It was nice to know someone knew what it felt like.
Coming back to life.
The first time Damian stalled when Alfred told him his food was ready, Alfred didnt think much about it.
But when Damian sat there, with his food in front of him for ten minutes, he grew suspicious.
Jason could see it. And he knew Damian would never say anything. So in private he told Alfred for him.
"Its too hot".
Alfred didnt need much explanation after that.
Alfred had been one of Jason's sole confidantes upon coming back to life.
He knew about the burning.
Yes, all of the robins had once or twice been deprived of air.
They all knew the pain that first breath brought with its relief.
But only Jason and Damian knew the fire that courses through dormant lungs when air is added.
It lasted for about a week.
The burning.
But it wasn't easily forgotten.
Damiam's food was too hot.
Just as Jasons had been the first month of his return.
So for now.
Alfred would make Damian food first,
And keep it cool.
Until he could handle hot food again.
Until the burning subsided.
Until he was Damian again.
But Alfred knew he never would be.
Jason wasn't.
But he would try.
Yes, Alfred would try.
Because Damian would try.
And all three knew,
The burning would stop.
