Letter to my Autumn Girl

dearest autumn girl
your season has come and gone
and come again, now I'm in
the midst of it and you are,
maddeningly, everywhere-

you're here in the fierce wind and
the rain that beats nonstop,
that leaves me soaked to the bone,
you're here in the darkening skies
and in my cold cold hands,
so unlike yours

and I find myself forgetting what
I was so afraid of back in spring,
forgetting that when your season fades
and the next one comes
I'll be stranded in the rain,
caught out in the wind,
and being soaked to the bone
won't seem so funny then
