Getting to know her culture has always been part of Sumaya's bucket list. With a mother that has traveled across the world just for an education, and a father that was so good at literature he was considered too smart for a Black Hispanic, Sumaya has a large pair of stilettos and disgustingly expensive atampa to fill. Whether she's sight seeing in Europe to reliving her parents lives as children in countries made for the freedom of their children, there's no end to the adventure. But nothing, nothing, tops living in Kano, Nigeria, her mothers home town. From being molded into a stronger women by cousins that use the term "American dustbin" as an insult (the only English insult they use in fact), to being introduced to the dating and wedding traditions, the fun just seems to have no end. I'm soooo excited for this book! This will actually just be a autobiography on the lives of my Panamanian father, who came to the US at age 15, and my Nigerian mother, who loved traveling so much even pregnancies couldn't stop her (climbed a mountain while pregnant with me, and studied in Italy and lived in London while pregnant with my brother). The story of Sumaya will just be me relieving my experience as someone living in America, with a soul stationed in Kano, Nigeria. I want these stories to be as realistic as possible, so nothing will be fabricated, Insha-Allah. Now, ALL MY HAUSA BABIES SAY BURrrrEN-UBE! Did I spell that right? idk. 😂😂 Sound it out and hmu if you understand and know how to spell it right. Who else's family is knows as population? #saveblackcharacters
