Rustem is a puppet king, who's done playing the fool. Ipaphan is a woman whose desire to is gain enough power to overthrow the system that forces her into the whims of men. On the kings 20th birthday, the king is forced to marry one of the Grand Viziers daughters. Feeling pressured into pursuing his eldest daughter, an arcane like his grandmother who has spent his entire life controlling his every move, Rustem makes the first political decision of his reign and chose his wilful third daughter instead. Ipaphan was less than thrilled, her promising career as a woman's doctor was stripped from her like so much before. Her father uses her to control the future of their family, and learn the dark magic known as the Arcane to not only keep her new husband under control, but to also continue the tradition of mind- domination the heirs to the kingdom as well. The king can only trust himself, and his new Queen is wilful and from the family that killed his own. He wants to hurt them, and will use the queen to do it. The Queen's own family betrayed her, promising her the life of a woman's doctor and cherishing her every dream. Until she finally becomes useful, and now condensed into another pawn for her families political gain. Its not until she see's the horrors of the court that she finally realises her families unprecedented power comes at an unparallel price, one that she must pay. Working alone is a death sentence in a court where your name and your face is used against you, They must use their wits and delve into the dark world of the arcane to beat the Mages at their own game, and grapple the kingdom away from those that wish to harm them or die trying.
