In the Fifth Century A.D., Vivienne, the Lady of the Lake, was beheaded by a knight of King Arthur’s court, Sir Balyn. Her transmigrated spirit is reborn in the Twenty-First Century as Vivian Dulac. Vivienne’s past literally catches up with Vivian when she is attacked by a man she is convinced is the same medieval knight, Balyn, who murdered Vivienne fifteen-hundred years before. He is just the first of her enemies to return from the past, hunting her. Vivian fights them off as, slowly and reluctantly, she rediscovers the memories and powers she once had as the Lady of the Lake. Then she is visited by a Goddess, Morrigan, who explains that Avalon is a parallel world to Earth, and that both worlds are in danger of invasion. Vivian must develop the qualities of a leader, banding together with other Champions like herself, forming a comitatus—a group of Companions with the blood of Avalon running in their veins. United, they begin to fight back.
