"No! At least not in front of him!" she screamed before she looked at me. "I love you, baby." The man laughed as he reached down and cut her throat. I gasped as she fell to the ground, blood flowing from her open throat. I let out a scream so shrill it made my throat burn. The man laughed again before slashing my face. I fell to the ground, hot tears falling from my eyes. The man put his knife back in the holder before leaving the cabin. As soon as he was gone I got up and went to mommy who was laying on the floor. A sob came from my mouth as she didn't move when I shook her. She only lay there in her pool of blood, not breathing. So, my five year old mind working nonsense, I ran out of the cabin and into the forest. Mommy had told me not to go off the path but I couldn't even see straight and just ran. I ran as fast as I could, blood dripping down my cut face. That night I couldn't find my way back to the cabin so I found a hollow tree that had fallen long ago and I curled up inside, pulling my sweater closer to me to keep warm. I fell asleep within an hour, tears never ceasing their flow. About two hours later I had woken up to something warm and fuzzy curling next to me. "Mommy?" I muttered as I pulled it closer. I opened my eyes and gasped when I realized it was a huge wolf. In my child mind I had thought "puppy!" She raised her head and looked at me. I saw her teeth and got a little scared but then she moved closer and we were nose to nose before she ran her tongue on the massive cut across my cheek and temple. I smiled and hugged her around the neck. That's where it all started. That's when I started being raised by wolves.
