Happy Friday, everyone! A couple of darker little oddities for you today to celebrate the coming end of May:

Today’s song in my Broadway-style musical, “montepio”, introduces the character of Jorge with a wistful solo as he walks the long road home after another hard day spent working in the coffee fields. I’ve included some sheet music and a little snippet of audio (performed by robots) this time around to help you explore the melody I was imagining. Check it out - https://www.wattpad.com/story/268938260

Today’s poem in my “An Alchemy of Words” poetry collection explores an unexpected personal connection to a tragic moment in American history, in the form of my great-aunt Tillie. You can read it here - https://www.wattpad.com/story/267206808

          	Read ’em and weep?

I released the opening song of my Broadway-style musical, “montepio”, today! Thanks to everyone for waiting patiently while I figured out the details of how to present everything.

To all the lyric-lovers out there, I apologize—the curtains rise on a rhythmic instrumental dance number that sets the stage on the dusty island coffee plantation of Montepio. Google “Brooms by Stomp music group” for a sense of what I was imagining (just with more stilts, guns, power, and money... or lack thereof, depending on who you ask).

I was also able to put some thought into audience participation and how all of you can be a part of this project here on Wattpad, beyond the usual following, voting and commenting. In short, “montepio” is currently a musical without music (in other words, a tragedy! ). So if any of my upcoming lyrics (or descriptions of rhythmic coffee stomping) inspire you, I’d love to celebrate your montepio performances and compositions by including your YouTube links and/or musical scores in my chapters where people can view and comment on them.

Next Friday, I’ll release the song “Jomorrismo”, a little father-daughter comedy duet that has actual lyrics, I promise. And then I believe the following week is the soliloquy “No Bread Today”, where I’ll be setting the opening lines to some of my own music.

Have fun and enjoy the ride!
          Rob

Hello wonderful people. You may not know this but I write stageplays as well as poetry.

Now that I’ve got myself into the groove of releasing new poems every Friday, I thought I’d up my game and begin releasing new pieces of theatre every Friday as well. First up is a Broadway-style musical libretto called “montepio” - https://www.wattpad.com/1066985485?utm_source=ios&utm_medium=link&utm_content=share_reading&wp_page=reading_part_end&wp_uname=RobBartel&wp_originator=n2fNxRkg8iRDVtYS7SqWM98h21YrWY4%2BOkbtWIVFYxvpme8Ehy1ykZFsE2%2BqxjUAodyMe6t6We8eiq3wJSzGypbjFGb7Iseffyka1L4uPJ6MC%2FS7EJJhV1AZotGIBlny

Today’s update is just the preamble but I’ll get actual scenes and songs out for it over the coming weeks. It’s a little something different and I hope you enjoy!

Plague house hugs to all of you,
          Rob
