I am the only child of the wealthy and rich Beifong family, and our symbol is a winged boar. My parents viewed my blindness as a disability and therefore keep me concealed. Despite my handicap, I developed special skills by keeping company with the blind badger moles that inhabited nearby caves. By imitating their movements, I became a master of the martial art known as earthbending; but kept my ability secret from my family. I fought frequently in Earth Rumble, an earthbending lei tai, under the alias "Blind Bandit". By the time Aang and his friends discover me at the tournament, I had become champion, holding a 42-0 win-loss record. But when my parents learned about this and confined me further, I accompanied Team Avatar as Aang's earthbending instructor.
