Broken Toys

Boring, faceless, lifeless, dull,

Single, one-toned, ugly doll.

Had a life, but now is gone.

Paint peeled off and hair pulled down.

Rocking horses tend to rock

Only when they’re used a lot.

Abandoned in an old house shed

Legs and rockers lay broken.

Bunny ears all grey and puffed

Have seen no-one for long enough.

Covered with dust from head to toe

Always in their endless woe.

Children used to come ‘round here

Now it seems they’ve disappeared.

With the sun and with the rain,

Will they all come back again?

Until they do their toys lay broken,

Inside these words that are now spoken,

Aloud out to the careless world,

Wondering what will be unfurled…
