The creature brought me to the surface with a couple others. I soon found out they were called trolls. We arrived at the museum.
"Why are we here?" I asked in a complaining tone.
"Do you ever shut up, fleshbag?" The one named Draal growled.
"Nope," I laughed. This was quite fun. He got flustered easily, and something about it made me admire him even more. The group quietly made its way into the building, and Draal set me down, finally.
"Stay quiet, young one.." His voice was agitated, but serious, so I listened. The trolls burst into a restricted area, revealing a giant glowing bridge, along with a few other creatures. My smile quickly faded, and I watched as Draal's team was taken down, one by one. I hid, listening to their fearful screams ripping out of their throats as they were violently stabbed and turned to stone. When I peeked out, I saw one of the trolls make his way over to Draal, who was restrained. They forced him to open a portal that tore through the floor just beneath the Bridge.
The Alpha's build was much like that of a gorilla. It was huge and black, the long, muscular arms dragging knuckles on the ground. There was a lengthy mane running down his back. Large horns rounded out from its forehead, jutting upward towards his face at the ends. The troll's face looked chiseled, in a way. His eyes were yellow, giving off a red glow at the iris.
"Pathetic.." his deep voice sounded disappointed. "Like father, like son!" He suddenly rammed his blade through the trollhunter, killing him instantly.
Oop! That was fast..
I had to fight myself to keep from laughing. I don't know why. My eyes flicked over to the portal, watching as another, larger troll emerged.
"This pleases me, son.. You have done.. well." The troll had the same build as the one he had addressed, but possessed long horns that ran outward, curving up at the ends, and his scars were a glowing blue. He was missing an eye, and the visible one seemed to burst with energy. He took something from his son's hand and threw it to the ground, stomping on it.
"Thank you, father." The two of them left, and I could hear the chaos and destruction they were causing. I emerged from my hiding place and found Draal, now a statue. I was at a loss.
What the hell just happened?
Jim entered.
"Ji--"
"Shh!" He clamped his hand over my mouth, pulling under another statue. A tall, pink troll walked through the remains.
"Come on," she told a pack of smaller creatures, laughing, "we're missing all the fun..."
"I can't believe you left me alone with him!" I yelled once she was gone, pointing to Draal. "I mean, he's kinda hot, but-- Argh! Why?!"
"What?" Jim looked in the direction I was pointing. "Draal. Oh no..." He ignored me, running to the dead troll. "I'm sorry..." he whispered, gently touching its face. He stumbled backward, gasping. "The amulet!"
"What?" I asked, joining him.
"The amulet! Did you see it?!" He flicked his finger in the direction of Draal's chest. My eyes followed it to a circular imprint.
"Oh, you mean that?" I showed him the smashed up object that the enormous black troll had stepped on. He gasped.
"No! No, no, no, no!" He ran over and scooped up the pieces, clutching them tightly to his chest. "For the glory of Merlin, daylight is mine to command." I looked around, assessing the situation. "For the glory of Merlin, daylight is mine to command. For the glory of Merlin, daylight is mine to command. Come on!" Jim's voice cracked and I turned my attention on him once more. "For the glory of Merlin, daylight is mine to command! Please work! Please work! For the glory of Merlin, PLEASE! FOR THE GLORY OF MERLIN, DAYLIGHT IS MINE TO COMMAND!" I rested a hand on the boy's shoulder.
"I'm sorry I didn't believe you.." I whispered softly, kneeling beside him. I saw tears streaking his cheeks.
"Please.." his voice was just above a whisper. "Please.. please.." Jim took my hand and helped me to a standing position, looking around. I didn't understand what he was doing. "Please, Unkar! Anyone!" The boy buried his face in the nape of my neck. It was a weird gesture, but I allowed him to for some reason. "I can't do this alone... I'm the trollhunter!" He pulled away, screaming into the abyss. He stopped to breathe, wiping his face.
"You, um.. okay?" I asked hesitantly.
"I'm the trollhunter."
"Okay.. then.."
"I am the trollhunter. I know I'm the trollhunter." I watched as he went to Draal and pulled the sword out.
That looks so heavy, how is that noodle armed boy lifting that thing?
"I'm the trollhunter," he repeated once more, slinging the weapon over his shoulder, "I'm the trollhunter, amulet or not." He began to walk to the door.
"Jim, what are you doing?!" I yelled.
"What I was meant to do.."
"What?!" He suddenly stopped, turning to some sort of invisible force. I could feel its presence, but couldn't see it.
"What choice do I have?" He asked.
Okay, so he's crazy then..!
He seemed to watch something moving in the silence.
"That's not who I am." He dropped the sword, pointing to the doorway. "Out there, they need a Trollhunter, and a Trollhunter fights to the end." He began dragging the sword, leaving. Suddenly, there was a swirl of light beside my head that became a glowing, emerald sphere. I yelped and quickly jumped over to where Jim was standing.
"Ah.. Now you're getting it. My amulet does not make mistakes." A voice echoed from the orb.
"Your amulet?" Jim gasped, "Merlin?"
"You know, it is customary to kneel before a Wizard.." The voice told him. He slowly knelt down and I mimicked his position, feeling a bit confused.
"You did this," Jim realized.
"Gunmar is free, Trollmarket is in peril, and of all creatures in our worlds, I chose you." Jim stood and I did the same. "Now, show them why." The boy turned and picked the sword up. Once again, I questioned its weight. He made his way out, staring straight at the troll who had emerged from the portal. I watched as it turned toward Jim. It growled, furrowing its brows. He ran at it, and before a single hit was landed, everything went black.--Regular time: Back to the main storyline--
My eyes shot open. I felt weird. Something was off. I sat up, no longer feeling the pain in my ribs.
What was that dream? I can't even remember it now, but I do know it was weird..
Looking around, I saw that I was still in Trollmarket's medbay, but Vendel was the only one there with me.
"How are you now, (Y/n)?" He asked, helping me down from the slab I was on.
"A lot better now, thank you," I tried to stand, but my balance was a little off. I quickly grabbed the side of the slab and took a deep breath. "I'm good!" I then followed the elderly troll into the Stronghold to see Jim.When we entered, the boy rushed out of the cage, yelling. His fists were up by his head as if holding an invisible baseball bat. He suddenly stopped, looked around, and patted his body.
"Master Jim," Blinky began.
"Are you okay?" I asked, grabbing onto the six-eyed troll's arm, still a little off. I couldn't figure out why I couldn't stand properly. It was a bit weird.
"Did they rough you up?" Claire asked worriedly.
"No, Claire, I'm-- I'm okay!" Jim exclaimed, rushing to me. He looked into my eyes for a moment, seeming unsure of what to say.
"Uh.. you sure?" I furrowed my brows.
"Never better," he smiled, picking up the amulet.
"We've come to escort you to the Tribunal," Blinkous gestured toward the door.
"They say if you're found guilty, you could die.." Toby said sadly, "Is that true?"
"He would walk free if he surrenders the amulet," Queen Usurna interrupted. "What is your choice, Trollhunter?"
"Uh, the one where he doesn't die?!" Toby shouted angrily.
"No," Jim cut in, "I'm keeping my amulet.
"Are you serious?" Toby calmed down, "this is what you want?"
"Yeah, Tobes. Never been more sure. I'll face whatever comes my way." Claire gasped.
"Then so be it. Your trial awaits, Trollhunter." Usurna gestured to the door. We all watched as Jim walked confidently out of the Stronghold.
