EMILY, WHAT DO YOU THINK? blake asked.
emily, hailey, blake, kio, and josh were all sitting together discussing ideas for blake's next youtube video. emily had not really been paying attention to anything they were saying. she was too focused on jackson.

"emily, are you even actually listening to us?"
blake let out a sigh.
"can you put your phone down for one second? i'd really like to hear your opinion."
"in a minute, i'm busy" emily muttered.
"you know what, give me your phone," blake said.
blake reached across and attempted to grab emily's phone.

"what the hell, you can't just take my phone like that, i'm not a child!"
"well, what you're doing isn't more important than what we're talking about!"
"give me my fucking phone you piece of shit-"
blake had won the tug of war.
"oh my fucking god," blake said
"why the hell is jackson talking to you?"
"who's jackson?" josh asked.
"emily's crazy, manipulative ex."
"emily has an ex?" hailey asked
"she does." blake said.
"not even i knew that," hailey said.
"i don't really like to talk about him..." emily said.
"what did he do?" josh said.
"i just said i don't really like to talk about him..."
"why not?" kio asked.
"because!" emily was yelling now.
"he's slut-shamed me in front of a crowd of people, he was constantly degrading me and telling me i'm not worthy, he's had me sit on top of a washing machine, and said that anything he circled needed to be lost, and he-he's attempted to hit me!"
tears were brewing in emily's eyes.
"oh my god," josh said.
"come here."
josh pulled emily into a hug.
"i'm so sorry em," hailey.
"i wish i had known."
blake was still scrolling through the DMs.
"wait, what does he mean you and bryce?"
"is there something i don't know about?"
there was a brief silence.
"bryce is in love with emily," kio blurted out.
blake froze.
"he's what?"
"am i the only person who doesn't know about this?"
another awkward silence filled the room.
"bryce texted me about it." josh said.
"emily texted me about it." hailey said.
"...for the record, i wasn't supposed to know, hails accidentally texted me about it."
"why's it such an issue though? like, i don't get it." josh said.
blake sighed.
"i just don't want my sister to get hurt again. what jackson did was seriously fucked up. seeing emily not eating for days, and crying hurt me a lot. and if any of my friends were to ever do anything like that to her, i'd be hurt even more. i love you guys, but family comes first. and if having to drop any of you protects emily, then i'm willing to sacrifice our friendship for her happiness, end of story.
"we completely understand," kio said.
"but we think emily is different." josh said.
"i think we all know that bryce doesn't usually stick with a girl. he's an f-boy, he'll fuck any girl he thinks is hot, and probably won't ever talk to her again."
"but the way bryce described his feelings for emily to me don't give off his usual f-boy energy. i think he really loves her.
