So, I've talked a lot about me, about me and Spot and all the interesting things to happen to us, but we aren't the only ones with exciting lives. Now the last time Jack's love life was mentioned, he was with Sarah Jacobs, Davey's sister, but since then she found someone new, a boy she went to school with. He had money and he had an education, better than scum like us. She chose him and left Jack in the dust. They still saw each other because he was Davey's best friend but Jack never spoke to her, she tried to apologise a few times but he wouldn't hear of it. But a few weeks after the break up Jack moved on, found someone better, someone to like him for him and not expect him to provide for her.

Emma Starling-

Emma was born in Queens to her parents Victoria and William, her mother was British and her father was American, so whilst he had a pure New York accent, her mother did not. Her parents met when William was on holiday in London and got lost so went into a cafe, and who was behind the counter? Victoria Jones. They fell in love and moved to America where they had 6 children, Anna, James, John,Emma, Frank and Margaret. Emma was the third youngest, only older than her little sister Maggie. With so many mouths to feed Williams pay wasn't enough, so the three oldest left school early and found jobs, James and John became Queens newsies, but Anna didn't like the sound of walking across New York selling papers in the blistering heat of mid July, so she found a job in a bakery. But when William lost his job, the next two were forced to leave school, Frank found a job in a factory and Emma joined her sister in the bakery. This bakery was all the way in Manhattan, but Emma would just get a lift on the back of a wagon, Anna refused and walked the whole way, which meant Emma would have an extra hour in bed and would still get there first.

One night Emma decided she wanted to spend a little of her wage on herself, she went to a vaudeville theatre called Irving Hall. There she watched as a beautiful woman with amazing red hair sang, making every man go in a trance of admiration. Emma knew this was something she wanted to do. She then began coming there whenever she had the chance, one night she stayed until closing time, there was no one there, no staff, no drunk men. Emma decided to take a risk, she walked up to the stage and turned to face where the audience usually would be. She took a deep breath and began to sing.

🎶take it easy, with me please, touch me gently, like a summer evening breeze🎶

Her voice was low and quiet, but as the song progressed she began to sing louder, swaying slightly

🎶take your time, make it slow, andante andante, just let the feeling grow🎶

After the song was finished she smiled, she knew this was something she loved, she began to walk towards the exit but stopped dead when she heard clapping behind her, she spun around to see the beautiful woman smiling at her

"I'm so sorry, I'll leave I just wanted to see what it was like" she apologised profusely

"Oh my dear, you have nothing to be sorry for, you have the voice of an Angel. How would you like a job here, my last opening lady just had to leave, she's pregnant" emma couldn't believe her ears

"Me, perform? No I couldn't" Emma said shaking her head

"Honey come here" the woman said, emma obliged and walked to the woman "I've heard many girls your age audition to perform here, but none of them could ever compete with you, I'm medda" she said holding out her hand

"Emma" emma shook her hand smiling

"You start tomorrow Emma, be here at 7 AM sharp" Medda smiled before walking through the wings, but came back "oh and when you come, use the stage door" she said before winking and leaving again. Emma left and when she got outside she did a little dance squealing to herself

"Someone's happy" an unknown voice said behind her, she turned around prepared for the worst, the boy noticed her worry and chuckled "don't worry I'm not gonna hurt youse" he said with a think New York accent "ise Bumlets" he said spitting in his hand and holding it out, then realising what he did and wiping the spit on his trousers and holding it out again "sorry, habit" he said, she shook his hand

"I'm emma" she told him

"I heard youse singin, youse like an Angel, that's what ise is gonna call youse, Angel" he told her, quite proud of his naming choice

"Oh okay, well it was nice to meet to erm.. what was it again?" Emma said

"Bumlets" he said

"That can't be your real name" she said laughing slightly, he laughed too

"Nah, it's my newsie name" he told her

"Oh my brothers are newsies in Queens" she told him

"They'll have newsie names too" Bumlets told her "well I'd better go but I'll see ya round Angel" he said before running towards another group of teenage boys. Emma went home and collapsed in her small bed grinning from ear to ear

"What you so happy about?" James asked joining in their shared room

"I got a new job, at a theatre, I'm gonna be a singer" she said happily, but then sat up staring at James and John, who were identical twins

"You two are newsies right?" She asked

"Yep" they replied together

"What's your newsie name?" She asked curiously

"Huh?" John asked

"I met this boy called Bumlets, he said all newsies have newsie names" emma explained

"Oooh" they replied together

"I'm zip" John said

"And I'm whip" James added

"And I'm Angel" emma laughed realising she had a newsie name without even being a newsie

I know some of you won't be happy with it being Jack and not Spot but I'll get back to Spot in a bit I promise
