The next morning, Thomas was a really useful engine. He huffed and he puffed. He shoved and he shunted, without stopping to ease his axles. Spencer watch Thomas' every wheel turn and piston pump. Spencer didn't go to work at the Duke and Duchess' summer house. He was too busy watching Thomas to see Gordon go by pulling a flatbed of old engine parts for Hiro. Thomas saw Gordon. Gordon saw Thomas and they smiled
[Gordon set off]
Thomas had worked hard all day. He had to go visit Percy at the Sodor Steamworks. Gordon steam towards Thomas. Gordon was beaming from buffer to buffer. He was very happy to be helping Hiro.
Gordon: Job done! Job done! Now, I must hurry. The Express mustn't be late!
Thomas: Well done, Gordon!
Gordon: Thank you, Thomas!
[The scene changes to the Steamworks where workman are working and Percy's being fixed]
At the Sodor Steamworks, sparks flew and cogs creaked. Percy was almost ready to leave. Percy and Thomas smiled. Then Sir Topham Hatt arrived. He was cross.
Sir Topham Hatt: Thomas and Percy, the mail trucks are still missing. Tomorrow, you must find them.
Percy: Yes, sir.
Thomas: Of course, sir.
Victor could see that Thomas and Percy were worried.
Victor: Percy, you're fixed. Come on, Thomas, cheer your friend up.
Thomas: I know just how to do that. Follow me, Percy.
Victor: Thomas, this afternoon, I will leave something for you.
Thomas: Thank you, Victor.
Percy: Thank you, Victor.
[The scene changes to Thomas and Percy going to Hiro's hideout]
Thomas and Percy puff up to Hiro's hideout. Percy saw Hiro for the first time. He gasped.
Percy: (gasps)
Thomas: Hiro, this is my best friend, Percy.
Percy: (a bit shy) Uh, hello.
Hiro: Hello, Percy. You have a very special best friend. I think that is because you are special too.
Percy: (blushes) Do you have best friends?
Hiro: Yes, I do. At home.
Thomas: Do you miss them?
Hiro: I do.
Percy: That must be very sad.
Hiro: Don't be sad. Look at my new funnel. Gordon brought it for me. (chuckles) When Gordon smiles, it changes his whole face. Heh. It is most interesting.
Narrator: That made Thomas and Percy smile.
Both: Good night, Hiro.
[The scene changes to the summer house as the sun starts to set]
Narrator: On their way home, Thomas and Percy chuff cheerily past the summer house. Their wheels whirred and their boilers bubbled. Neither of them saw Spencer. Spencer saw them. He was hiding in the shadows. Once they had past, he slid silently out of the siding.
Spencer: I'm going to find out what those tricky tank engines are doing. It's time for steely Spencer to hunt for clues.
