Prickly roses sting your heart and fill you with their floral scent
As the beaten carpets unfurl and sway.
You walk down these paths to find what you lent,
To find the missing piece you gave away.

With every step the thorns grow thicker,
Urging you to give up your quest.
Your strides start reaching longer and longer;
There is no time to rest.

But alas you reach the end of the worn tiles
And see nothing but love.
The roses from before dissipate from within, spreading out for miles
While your friends swoop in from above.

They shone their brightest smiles and grins,
Laughed with all their might and cried
Because standing before them brighter than tin,
Was someone who is so courageous inside.

You realize then that what you gave was happiness;
In return they sent for you
Kindness and laughter and all things joyous,
It was the least they could attempt to do.

For now they wish you a happy birthday,
For a wonderful 19th year,
For a day full of celebration and play,
For a day where you can cheer.
