Special Memory I Have with my FamilyThe special memory I have with my family is the tradition of going to the city in Sinulog. I grew up with this tradition. I remember my mother prepared food for lunch after we went to the Cathedral. My mother did it so we can save money. Food is usually pricey this time. I remember taking the bus going there at dawn and sitting on my parents lap when we were kids. We did that to save the bus fare. We no longer did it when we were too old to sit on their laps. 😅 I remember squeezing ourselves to the sea of people. I can't remember making it inside the church. It is always crowded and I loathed it. It's the only thing I hate about it. My parents would hold us tight so we don't get lost. I remember this particular paramedic guy who I saw every year without fail. I remember how devoted people were praising to Snr. Sto. Niño. It always impressed me. I remember the long walks we took and I pretty much remember how my younger sister and I complained. I remember visiting our relatives in the city at the end of the day. I only saw them during this time. I remember how hospitable they were. We always had a home to stay for the night before going back to the province. My father's relatives were accommodating. We were always welcome. I remember how thrilled I was seeing them once a year.
Waking at dawn, the trip going to the city, being squeezed in a sea of people and long walks might be exhausting but when you are truly devoted to your patron saint, all these things are worthy and fulfilling.
