Chapter 11:

[Several days after Jessica had asserted herself, her skills were drastically improved when she moved from her bought and very expensive pistol, to assault rifles. She gets to wear clothing that can provide actual protection, and not be a burden on windy days. She finally got used to the loud gunshots, and the taste of the powder from the barrel of her rifle. She gets introduced to room clearing tactics, her aim was tested, and furthermore, showing how good she is in CQC. Turns out, felines still have claws, despite being more human looking. During her breaks, she often looks for Tanner, because she was coming down with the case of "Ai ned pets, nao" syndrome. She was getting distracted every time after her breaks, which is often a liability, but still, her skills were improved. Better than the training she received back there, she stated. Jessica was, apparently, the only foreign employee working for Neil Mechanics. Her job was apparently just stand there and look cute, due to how they're the reunion, and they cause trouble, not endure it. But she was enjoying the hospitality showed by the engineering folk, even pets from the guards, and even Prime Tech got in the fun, because in one particular day, an android courier brought a toy filled with catnip. The laughs from the day that courier gave Jessica cat crack, was nothing but the best laugh anyone ever had in the new normal. In her fifth month of working with the Neil Mechanics Co., everyone celebrated. This is also gonna be her first given mission on the ground, but Raul will explain that later.]

Tommy: We're almost there, Jess.

Jessica: Oh! What is it? What is it!

Tanner: *Covers her eyes* Something you'll like, girl.

Jessica: Hey, guys, I suspected I would be met with stern and strict faces, but you guys are really gentle. Why are you so nice to me?

Tanner: Why wouldn't we? We're accepting of new members, Jessica.

Jessica: Hey, uhm, I have a question. Why is everyone here looking strange?

Tommy: Oh, we're all infected.

Jessica: INFECTED?!

Tanner: Calm down, Jessica. All of us are immune. And we won't infect you. The others, their immune systems just reacted very late, and now they're this.

Jessica: I've been working for the reunion this whole time?!

Tanner: Well, yes, but are you seriously doubting your work after we treated you like family?

Jessica: Well...no...

Tanner: Good... Don't freak out, okay? We're nice people, and we are looking for a cure. Right?

Tommy: Prime Tech's got it covered. Though I am afraid of what will happen to the families we sent to rebuild civilisation there.

Tanner: Prime Tech needs more subjects, right? We will be one step closer to making an antidote for everyone. Now, Jessica, get ready, because we're here.

*Jessica, once outraged and afraid, was excited for her surprise. It is not her birthday, if she could even remember when it was, so this is sorta new. As Tommy orders for the gate to open, Tanner removes his hands. Inside, the hangar was filled with birthday decorations, there's even a banner saying "Happy fifth month working anniversary, Jessica!" Everyone yelled in unison "Surprise!" And Jessica grew very excited. Everyone was shaking her hand, until they realised they're infected, so they just touched their elbows together. There were delicious snacks, that's prolly dangerous for her, and of course, gifts and whatnot. Mostly it's just merchandises, and of course, new guns. Tanner was with her side all the time while she was celebrating, because she's not comfortable when he's not with her. There was a band playing oldie rock music, and Jessica appears as if she had never heard good music in her entire life...which may be sadly right. They danced for a few minutes, until the band turned from rock, to slow dancing music. Every worker in the dance floor hugged and slow danced.*
