The entire patio had fallen silent. A pin could drop and one would grip their ear in pain silent. No one dared speak in fear of what would exit out of their mouth.
Akira stared at her cracked and callused hands in shock. Disbelief flooded her veins as she replayed the scene that just occurred moments before. She had airbended. She had saved herself from crushing her face into the cement of her homes patio by airbending. She, a nonbender, had airbended. How is that even possible? Is it possible? So many questions had filled the teens head as she continued to stare at her hands in front of her.
A squeal of delight had finally broke the seemingly endless silence among the Fire Nation family. No one needed to turn around to see who the noise had come from. They all knew. Their mother had knelt down to Akira's height, still sitting on the floor she fall onto. Midori has brought her eldest daughter into an embrace. Tears had ran down the woman's face as she began to thank the spirits for blessing Akira with the gift of bending. The whole family felt unease at Midori's gratefulness at Akira's new found bending.
People began to gather around as the older woman's preachings got louder and louder, practically sobbing them at this point. The eldest of the family, Joji, had stepped forward and scooped up his mother, bringing her back inside the house so she could stop making a scene. Other Fire Nation folk began to whisper amongst themselves and pointed at one of the oldest and noblest families of the Fire Nation. What was to become of their bloodline? Would she be sent away to train with the late Avatar Aang's son? Is she the only airbender? Are there others? So many questions had erupted from the crowd, making the family retreat back into their house not wanting to draw further attention to Akira.
Numi, the family's youngest, had tried questioned her eldest sister but had gotten nothing in response. Akira was still processing everything, trying to comprehend what just happened. Hiro, the family's youngest son, had peeled his youngest sister away from Akira to give her space of her own. A million questions had been running through the family's head but only one had echoed throughout the now airbenders head.
What was going to become of her?
