What even is love?

That sole thought had been racing through my mind for the past three weeks. I had managed to avoid Liam for that long.

It was hard going all that time without talking to my favorite boy, but my brain needed it.

Taliah scoffed from beside me. "Call him now." She said pulling my phone out of my back pocket and handing it to me.

"Girl, who are we talking about?" I said, acting clueless.

My mom yelled from the kitchen. "Maybe she's talking about the person who's been steady blowing your phone up."

"I don't know what-" My phone pinged. "Settings notification." It pinged again. "Twitter notification." Once more. "Insta-"

"Girl, you finna need to talk to him one of these days. Emily says he's-"

"How are you and Em?" I said, hoping to distract her.

It worked. "I like her so much. You know how sweet she is, but she's even sweeter when it's just us. Not much is happening though." She said with a pout.

I covered my wide grin by faking a cough. T had finally told me she had a crush on Em and literally minutes later Em told me she had a crush on T.

Every one could see the way looked at each other. Except them. I shook my head. Just prolonging the inevitable.

I comfortingly patted her shoulder. "In due time, sis."

Her head jerked up. "Speaking of time, when are you going to talk to Liam?"

"Hmm?"

She laughed. "Ri, stop playing. What even happened with y'all?"

The doorbell ringing saved me from having to answer the question. "I got it." I said already going towards the sound.

I looked out through the peephole on our door and casually walked back to the living room. "Actually, can you get it, T?" I asked, passing by her and going towards the stairs. "Thanks." I sang.

She looked at me suspiciously, then got off the couch to open the door. I bolted to my room and locked the door behind me.

"Ria Storm Rose." Taliah yelled through the house.

"Ayo, don't be yelling in my momma's house." I yelled back at her.

Everything was quiet.

Then I heard the front door shut again and steps coming towards my room.

"Ria." Mom said. "Let me tell you something. You are going to open this door and you are going to go talk to that young man. I did not raise a coward." She took a breath. "Unless there is a valid reason as to why you don't want to talk to him?"

"Nothing serious." I mumbled in response.

"Okay then." She said, walking away. "He's waiting for you outside."

I groaned as I walked downstairs. Did I have to do this right now? I walked through the living room and Taliah gave me a thumbs up. I inconspicuously flipped her off and walked through the door.

The air was a bit chilly seeing as it was almost late January. I wanted to race back into the house to get a jacket, but I knew if I went in I would not come back out.

I kept my eyes on the ground when I was a couple of feet away from him. Neither one of us said anything.

I got tired of the silence after minutes passed by. "You gonna say something?" I asked softly, looking up at him.

He was staring back at me. "Don't want to say the wrong thing." He said with a small laugh.

I couldn't help but smile at that. "I'm sorry I avoided you for so long." I said, playing with my fingers. "Pretty dumb move now that I think about it."

He opened his arms and I gladly stepped into them, wrapping mine around his waist. "Yeah, let's never do that again." He rubbed his hand over my back and I shivered.

Yeah, it's really cold out here.

"So," I said, still holding on to him. "What's up with you?"

"I'm going to D.C for a dance tour with my studio." He said, playing with my coils.

I leaned back, frowning. "Liam, you don't dance."

"Three weeks is a long time, baby." He dramatically put his hand to his chest. "I needed a positive way to express the heartache I felt when I wasn't with you."

"You're so goofy." I said, laughing. I had truly missed him.

"Nah, but would you like me more if I knew how to dance?" He asked as he led me to his car and opened the passenger door for me.

I got in and sent a quick text to mom. "Maybe." I said playfully.

"Damn it. Now I need to learn how to pop and lock." He said, starting the car.

I laughed. "A'ight, let's not break bones now. I like you just fine. Where are we going?" I asked.

He smiled at me. "DelTaco."

This boy is literally amazing.

<*^ ^ ^*>

We had eaten and caught up and were now sitting in a mostly empty parking lot. The silence was lovely as we sat there, holding hands and stealing glances at each other.

"About what I said that night," I stiffened, but relaxed when I looked into his eyes. "I won't bring it up again until I think you're completely comfortable with the idea."

I sighed and looked up at sky. This was comfortable.

I turned towards him and pecked his lips. "I'm sorry I overreacted." I said, rubbing his cheek.

He kissed me again and then pulled back with a mischievous look on his face. "So does that mean I can propose soon? I already bought a ring and everything."

I kissed my teeth, trying not to laugh and got into the car. "Take me home, Liam."

He got in and kissed my cheek. "I'm just playing, babe." He said, starting the car. "Mostly."

I groaned and he had the nerve to laugh.
