A Bitter Winter Day

Somewhere in North Dakota.....

It was a bitterly cold day, with temperatures in the negative teens. Laura was not liking this weather one bit. A deep freeze was in the Midwest, and Northern Plains. The deep freeze would not let up, until Friday of next week.

Laura was sitting by the fireplace, with her cat, Rose, on her lap. She purred and rubbed her face on Laura's neck. A cold wind was also blowing. Some kids were outside playing in the cold, and were wearing shorts.

"They better be dressed up in layers," said Laura, not looking out the window.

The sunshine was doing very little to keep anyone warm outside. The fierce wind only made things worse. And as for the kids that played outside, they got frostbite, and it was not pretty.

This extremely cold weather was no joke. It was practically the dead of winter.
