in which lucienne 'lucy' lovell thought she had her life figured out, for the most part. however, her plans slightly take a turn when she makes the acquaintance of colin bridgerton, both of them quickly becoming infatuated by one another.

in which lucienne lovell wanted nothing more in life than to be a writer. to have her words read and cherished by many was her dream. she wanted to make people laugh and cry, and just feel something with the things she would write. however, there was one problem, she was a woman. and with the society she lived in, women were seen as nothing more than wives and mothers. it was a fact that her parents never failed to remind her.
lucienne did not let that stop her passion, though. in one final endeavor to enjoy her love for writing before her parents force her to settle down and seek a husband, she goes to italy; telling her parents that she is studying music, while actually taking secret advanced reading and writing classes for women.
in the beginning, everything is absolutely amazing and goes exactly to plan. however, things start to change when she meets colin bridgerton, both of them quickly taking a liking to one another.
