Ezra pov
12 minutes. That's how late I am!
After leaving Claudia's new house, I went back home to get my bag and immediately went back out, driving to work. Everything was fine until a ten-year-old hurt her ankle in my last lesson of the day. I had to stop everything and took her to the hospital. Long story short, she had to get her ankle in a cast for the next four weeks!
I had to wait for her mother to come and get her from the hospital before I could leave and when I finally was able to make my way home, traffic got worse and I got stuck on the highway.
"Ez, sweetie-", mum had to open the door for me cause apparently, my keys decided to disappear! Could this evening get more fucked up?!
"Sorry, ma. I'm so late! I have to hurry up before Billie gets here", running past my mum and entering my room, I start to take my clothes off and go straight into my bathroom to take a quick shower.
"Sweetie, Billie is already here!", standing in the middle of my room and catching the pieces of clothes I discarded on my floor, mum yelled so I could hear her in the shower, "She's with your father by the stables!".
You know how parents get that sense of protectiveness but at the same time of embarrassment?! Like they want to protect you from getting your heart broken but at the same time they don't mind telling embarrassing stories about your childhood to your date?
Now, my dad...he sure loves me and wants to see his only daughter safe and loved, but he sure as hell also loves to tell embarrassing stories about me to anyone who might hear, "Ma...why did you let her go with him? He's gonna embarrass me!".
Getting out of the shower and wrapping a towel around my body while with a smaller one I try to dry the excessive amount of water from my hair.
"You know that girl is crazy about you! I don't think your father's stories will get her to run from you!", my mum was always colder than my dad when it came to heart-to-heart conversations. She never, or rarely, lets me know what she thinks, what's going through her mind, but she also does it when I least expected her to.
"When she got here, I could see the excitement in her eyes! When I told her you weren't home yet, all of her confident act crumbled down... she seemed so fragile in that moment!", standing behind me while I was standing in my vanity, looking at me through the small mirror in front of us, "So, your dad took her with him to the stables, that way she wouldn't be sulking by herself waiting for you, missy!".
Every time I saw in a movie, a mother helping the daughter get ready for a date, I wanted that! I wanted that few minutes with my mother to gush about that one person I care about. That's why whenever I saw Mamma Mia, I cried watching Donna help Sophie get ready... well, the song in that scene didn't help at all, but you know, waterworks was always the result. So, having my mum drying my hair, styling it for me in a low bun at the back of my head, doing my make-up and helping me choose what I should wear, was a dream come true!

I was making sure I had everything in my small black purse when I heard her voice. I looked up and saw her standing there, next to my dad, talking and laughing. Her hair was up in two cute space buns and her face was framed by left out black strands. She was wearing a black, oversized button-up shirt paired with ripped jean shorts and her white Nike's Air force 1. Her right leg was in a black wrapped-up cast that reached her knee, but she still looked beautiful!
"Hey sweetie, you're late!", only my dad to interrupt my daydreaming saga, calling me out in front of Billie.
"Well...women always take their times when getting ready, dad!", Billie seemed to be enjoying this comic exchange between dad and me, looking back and forth between us.
