Name: Kaia Reese - meaning 'The Sea' in Hawaiian. Also goes by 'Kai' for short which is a gender neutral name meaning 'Pier of a Harbour'. Her last name means 'Ardour' in Welsh which in turn means 'great enthusiasm or passion'

Background:

Kai was born in a brothel in Nassar to a prostitute and an unknown man who had hired her mother specifically so that she would only serve him and no other customer. The Father would be away at sea for months or even years at a time but because of the money he gave the brothel to look after Kai's mother, she never served anyone else. Kai's mother eventually fell pregnant with Kai and died during childbirth leaving the baby girl with the prostitutes. Instead of sending her to an orphanage, the prostitutes decided to raise her themselves, a healthy break from the usual costumers they served and her presence helped quench their thirst to have a family of their own which they couldn't with their profession. Kai's mother had also been a kind and well respected woman in the establishment so the other women chose to look after Kai themselves as a favour to their old friend. While growing up, Kai would dress as a male in order to protect her in the Lawless streets of Nassar and to not attract the attention of costumers too drunk to realise that she wasn't up for sale. She would take on odd jobs around the city to urn money for the women at the brothel in her own way and she would protect the women as well once she was strong enough. Their was eventually a running joke among the brothel where the prostitutes would gush and fawn over Kai, dressed as a boy, and flirt with her and seduce her in different ways knowing full well who she was and they all had a laugh with it while everyone else who wasn't inn on the joke just thought Kai was a ladies man. Kai eventually became the owner of the brothel when the old owner retired and gave the brothel to her, which all the women agreed with knowing Kai would look after them. Kai then told the women that they shouldn't give out more information than they need to and if anyone comes asking questions that they know the answers to, then the information should come with a price, all while remembering information from other customers as well. unintentionally turning the brothel into a secret information bureau. One day James Kidd comes into the brothel looking for information on one of his assassination targets and Kai tells him that if he wants information like that, then it comes at a price. Kidd pays up, impressed with how they work, and leaves. Not long after, the very same man comes into the brothel and assaults one of the prostitutes before leaving. After hearing what happened, Kai hunts the man down herself and castrates him for what he did to the woman before robbing him and covering him in alcohol to set him on fire. Before she can ignite him, Kidd comes out the shadows and confronts her, This doesn't stop her though as she throws a match on his body and watches it burn while saying that Kidd was being slow if he was planning on killing a scumbag like that man and that she knew their was something shady about him since he was actually a she. Kidd is shocked that Kai knew her real gender though Kai goes on to say that theirs nothing wrong with shady as long as they dont get on her shot list and that she wont reveal anything about Kidd as long as she respects the women in the brothel. Kidd offers Kai to get in on assassination jobs and Kai agrees, the two eventually becoming close friends and Kidd also finding out that Kai is also a woman dressed as a man. The two become best friends and partners in crime though Kai isn't an official assassin, though she knows about them and is a very skilled fighter. Eventually, Kai took to the seas so she could hunt down targets and bring back the cash rewards the the brothel for the ladies working their and top up on the information they had gathered and she established a pretty decent living, earning a lot of money on the down low. After a few years into the business, Kai meets Kidd in one of the pubs in Nassar after finishing up a contract and the two mess around and joke to each other before Kidd throws her the money for the contract, this catches the attention of Kidd's group, Edward Kenway included, making them curious into who this mysterious man is that gets along so well with Kidd. Edward eventually approaches Kai looking for information after Kidd pointed him in her direction.

Kai spends her entire childhood dressed as a male because it is safer for her to do so in Nassar. With her living in a brothel, customers may approach her since she is a female and those heavily intoxicated ones may even try to force themselves on her. Weather she is a child or not. It is also safer to live as a man than a women in that time in general.

Their is a running joke among the women in the brothel as they try to seduce Kai while she is dressed as a man, once she is in her teens, and it has become an inside joke between them while they all go along with it. Though to anyone who isn't in on the Joke, it just looks like Kai is really popular with the ladies. James Kidd / Mary Reed, gets in on the joke when she discovers Kai's gender and she also gets flirted with by the prostitutes because of this though not as much as Kai.

As a way of collecting her information discreetly, when Kai or Kidd enter the brothel, the women will approach them and take them to one of the private rooms where they serve customers. To outsiders, it would look like they are just hiring prostitutes but they are actually passing information.

While Kai becomes the owner of the brothel, she leaves one of the older women in charge of the establishment while she is away. Though Kai is in charge of a lot of the decisions. 

There could be a point were Edward and the other pirates that appear in the game are all joking about the women they sleep with and how attractive they are when someone makes a comment on how Kai looks too skinny to attract or please a woman. They make a bet on who is the most popular though when Kai tries to refuse, they pull her into the bet, thinking that it would be easy money. They all go to the brothel Kai owns, not realising that she is the owner and the girls immediately run over to Kai and gush about graphic descriptions of sex that never actually happened, really playing it up, leaving the boastful pirates left out.

I might have it so that Kai is a captain in her own right. With needing to travel to the locations of her targets as well as to gather information outside of Nassar that the brothel can't find out about, she could been transportation si it would make things easier for her if she were to be a pirate. 

After befriending Kidd and starting taking assassination contracts, Kia joins a crew in order to get to her next destination, as a cabin boy. However, the captain is cruel to the rest of the crew and drive them to Mutiny. Kai helps them take down the captain and urns their respect through other deeds as well, so she urns their loyalty as well, becoming their captain even when she didn't mean to. Her crew being too stubborn to take no for an answer when she tries to turn the position down and light heartedly pier pressure her into it and keep calling her captain even when she tells them not to.

Her crew also find out that she is a female and become some of the few people who know.

As for who her father is, I was thinking of having him be Blackbeard. They could also be a templar or even an assassin though. What do you think?
