I smiled down at the newborn baby girl in my arms, cradling her gently.

"You're a beautiful little girl," I cooed.

Eric gave our daughter a smile, letting her clutch his finger.

"She really is. You did a good job."

In spite of everything, I was too happy holding our baby to be bitter, so I leaned over and gave him a kiss.

"We did a good job. She takes after you too."

He gave me a smile, kissing me on the cheek. "Well I'm lucky she has such a beautiful mother."

Before I could respond to his flattery, our daughter started to fuss.

"Ohh you're hungry, aren't you?" I murmured, starting to nurse her.

The door to the hospital room swung open and I looked up from our daughter as Eric inhaled sharply. I felt my eyes widen.

Bruce was standing in the doorway, face growing red as he looked between the two of us. "Eric can I talk to you real quick? Outside?" he asked in a shaky voice.

I looked at Eric, who had gone white. There was a pause before he slowly rose to his feet, walking over to Bruce.

"It's not what you think it is," he said, but Bruce just shook his head. "We'll talk outside," he snapped.

Eric reached to take his hand but Bruce just jerked his hand away, grabbing Eric by the shoulder and practically shoving him out of the room. The door swung shut behind them, leaving me alone. Shaking my head, I looked down at the baby girl in my arms.

"Well, it seems your father never did tell his boyfriend about his secret girlfriend who he had gotten pregnant," I said.

I could hear them arguing in the hallway and strained to listen, wishing they would just come back into the room. No sooner had the thought crossed my mind did the door swing open again as Eric backed into the room, Bruce doing his best to shout at him while not raising his voice too loud so as not to disrupt our baby.

"You can't just surprise someone with a baby! And especially not when it's just been born!" he cried.

"I'm really sorry! Please don't leave me!" Eric begged.

But Bruce shook his head, looking over at me, and there was sadness and pity in his eyes.

"I'm not leaving you. I'm letting you go. You can't...you can't stay with me, we can't stay together. You've got a family now. You need to be a father to your child."

"But why can't we raise her together?" he asked, taking Bruce's hands.

"Because you didn't tell the mother you were planning on that! It's not fair to her." "But we did!" Eric protested. "W-we worked it out six months ago!"

But Bruce just shook his head. "I'm sorry, I really truly am because you're the love of my life, but we can't be together anymore. Maybe in 18 years, when your daughter is grown. Congratulations on having a baby," he murmured, kissing Eric tenderly on the forehead.

There was a pause before Bruce gave me a strange look which shifted into a gentle yet apologetic smile.

"Would you like to see her?" I asked.

He blinked, looking between me and Eric.

"Oh, I--um...okay," he said, walking over and standing by my bedside.

"I'm Y/N," I said, holding out a free hand, and he shook it. "Bruce Kulick. It's nice to meet you. Sorry you had to be kept a secret for nine months," he said.

I didn't bother to tell him it was more than nine months, it was over two years, as that was a battle I had no desire to start.

I was taken aback by just how tall Bruce was, but he was also very kind. He hesitantly reached out, picking up my daughter in his huge hands. He cradled her gently in his arm, giving her a soft smile.

"She's a really cute kid. Got her dad's eyes," he said.

There was a pause as Bruce kept looking at Eric and I's daughter, his own eyes filling with tears, before he carefully handed her back to me.

"Thank you. And I'm sorry for all this mess. I promise though, Eric's a good partner. He'll be a good father," he said, giving Eric a fond smile.

Eric didn't smile back, just bit on his lip. Tears were rolling down his cheeks.

"Bruce please," he croaked.

"I'm sorry. It's for the best, I promise," Bruce said, hesitating for a moment before giving Eric a soft kiss.

"Take a few days off. I'll see you at practice next week."

And with that, he was gone.

Eric bit back a sob.

"I'm sorry. I-I really am happy we've got a daughter," he whispered.

"I know. It's okay," I said.

"I j-just...I always thought I'd be able to work something out with you being like an aunt and me and him together, I-I never...never thought he'd be the one who...who left."

"I know," I said again. There wasn't much else I could say.
