over.
it's what the night is now,
as the darkness is vanquished
by the rays of our closest star.
the universe is an endless night
only broken by flaming balls of gas
just like this one
clumped together by the force that governs it.
how likely was it that we would have a day at all?
I should be getting ready for school
now starting in a few minutes
I should be peeling back the dark curtain
temporarily lain on my daytime worries
but instead I leave the curtains closed
the light not catching the page of my to-do list
or the sheen of my computer screen
or the clock that tells me to rush through
I can only ignore for so long,
but that doesn't change the fact that
in a world that thrives on light
I'm most alive when it's gone.
