Aiden's POV
Pain ran throughout my body the more I awoke. "Aiden are you okay honey?" Adam whispers, holding me gently. I nod, yawning. "Just sore from the recent night" I mutter, slowly leaning up. His arms fall but slowly reattatch to me, wrapping around my waist. He leans up and turns my body gently, looking at my shoulder. I didn't realize how much pain radiated off of my shoulder until he turned my attention to it.
"Does it hurt?" Adam questions, making me nod in agony. He rises from the bed, turning, then leaving the room. Soon after, he returns with a few pain relievers and a glass of water. "Thank you" I say, smiling greatfully. I swallow the pills and the water before easily standing. I walk over to my closet and pick out a outfit that I guess I owned before I lost my memory. I pick out a pair of faded jeans, a Blink-182 t-shirt and a pair of royal blue converse.
When I turn back around, Adam had once again disappeared from sight. I quickly change out of my old outfit and into the one I had picked out as something catches my eye. A guitar that had several signatures scattered across it. Was this mine? I hesitantly walk over to it and pick it up, studying it.
"Aiden are you alright?" Adam questioned, walking into my room confused. I turn to face him, nodding. "This thing just means so much to me. Any time I would go to a concert, to the bands I listened to, I got their signatures. This guitar alone gave me a reason to keep trying. I practiced nonstop and eventually learned to play. These names and music is the reason why I'm still here today" I reply, my voice getting a little quieter at the end.
Adam walks up to me and pulls me into a tight hug. "I'm sorry about leaving you a few years ago.. " I whisper. "Don't worry about it. You couldn't control it. I'm just happy I have you back" Adam replies, making me smile. "So I heard you say that you can play and Tyler told me about how you can sing. I think I need to hear this for myself" Adam chuckles out.
"Aiden?" Adam questions, waving a hand in front of my face. I jump and look around, the memory slowly fading back into the reality that surrounded me. "I remember my guitar and the time I sang to you" I whisper out, smiling. He smiles big, nodding. "You're slowly remembering" he breathes. I nod and set the guitar down. "C'mon. Let's try to get out of the house today alright?" Adam says, extending a hand out to me. I gently take it, interlocking our fingers. My heart rate jumped at his touch, causing me to giggle lightly.
We walk down the hallway, passing a snoring Ty who's passed out in his bedroom, and to the front door. I flinch at the sound of Adam unlocking the door. I pull my hand back and take a step away from the door and Adam. Why am I so jumpy? Oh yeah. My mother and Dawn are out there trying to kill me.
"It's alright. I'll protect you Aiden. As long as you're with me you're safe" he mutters, looking into my eyes with love in every glance. I slowly nod, walking out the door with Adam following behind. Our hands soon reattach as we continue walking down the sidewalk. "So Adam I was wondering..." I trail off, glancing over at him. His eyebrows raise as if they were answering me instead of his words.
"Can you tell me stories about when we were kids? I kind of want a clue to how close we were back then" I smile. He chuckles and runs his free hand through his hair. "Hm, I think I know one that is pretty important" he replies, pulling us off of the sidewalk and in the direction of the park.
"We were in middle school. You were going through your punk band phase while I was going through my video games phase. We were always hanging out together almost everyday. It was even rumored that we had gotten married because of how close we were. One day, that changed it all. It was the last day of middle school. I was walking around during lunch trying to find you. I knew you didn't eat much because you became in such a depressed black hole you couldn't escape. So, you would physically escape from lunch and walk around outside to calm yourself down. That's what I figured you were doing so I walked outside to see a group of guys surrounding you, beating you" he pauses, taking a deep breath.
I needed to know more. I was so interested in my past. "I ran to them and pushed them off of you, following with me beating the crap out of them. I think I even broke a kid's arm. However, I could care less. All that I cared about was you. I ran to your side and checked for anything broken. You ended up having a few scratches and your ribs were badly bruised. I took you up to the office and held you closely to me. Your mother was called to take you home. When she arrived, she looked emotionally unstable and had a strange smirk growing on her face. She growled at me, pulling you from my arms then walking out the door. That was the last time I saw you until a month ago" he says, turning us down a sidewalk in the park. My mind buzzed around with questions. Why did Adam decide to put up with me for that long? Why did my mother take me away from Adam? Why-?
My thoughts are suddenly cut off when my name hits my eardrums. What was different was Adam wasn't the one who said it. A man who looked to be in his mid forties low fifties, had slick black and brownish colored hair and eyes that were as green as a field did. "Who are you?" Adam quesions in a protective tone, pulling me behind him. "I should be asking the same to you since you are the one holding my daughter" he replies, sternly.
"Daddy where are you going?" I question, walking into the new living room. We had just recently moved by the looks of it. "I'm leaving. I'm sorry" he whispers, grabbing two suitcases then progressing to the door. I couldn't help but just watch him leave. My father was bailing on us. Tears welded in my eyes as my mother storms into the room. "Where is he?!" she screams, her voice suddenly turning into thunder. I flinch before pointing towards the door. "H-He's gone?" her voice turning instantly to pain. I nod, wiping away any tears that rolled down my cheeks. My mother slowly turns and walks back to her bedroom without another word. The next day was Day One of my beatings.....
"What do you want" I spit out at the man who I once called father. "I wanted to see my little girl" he replies, extending a hand out to me. I slap his hand away and back up, pulling Adam with me. "Get away from me. You are not my father. You are nothing to me" I demand, gripping Adam's hand in my own. "I'm sorry I left. I know I shouldn't-" he started but I cut him off. "You don't know what you put me through!! Mom became a drunk and abusive!! She tortured me for 4 years and now is out to kill me!! Now you want to come back and act like everything is okay?! Get away from me" I scream, gaining looks from bystanders. My father's eyes fill with hurt as I drop Adam's hand and run in the opposite direction. "Aiden wait!" Adam calls after me, causing me to run faster.
I can't be here anymore I needed to get away and think.
