"Gah, what the fuck?!" Kanade exclaimed as she stepped across the bridge onto the fourth island with Yoruko in tow. "Why is it snowing? Hell, why is it snowing indoors?! I can see it through a window!" She pointed to one of the open windows of the Tower of Babel, indeed proving her point.
"I don't know, that's strange enough as it is. But then again, we are on a school field trip run by a stuffed animal and we're classmates with an honest-to-god wizard. Snow indoors is weird, but not improbable." The hostess answered, walking past Kanade and towards the tower. "Regardless, we still have to keep searching this place for more materials for the project. This isle never seems to run out of hem, for some reason."
"Yeah, I guess you're right. I'll have to have a talk with Mikado about this 'indoor snow' phenomena, he might be able to find a spell to fix it." The guitarist agreed as she hurried to catch up with the taller girl.
The two of them stepped inside the Tower of Babel, and while the hostess was unnerved that the tower's interior had somehow gotten darker, her smaller companion was confused at how the snow falling in the tower wasn't piling up or making anything wet. It was simply falling on the floor and melting without leaving anything behind. She'd have to mention that to Mikado, but come to think of it, his powers don't work here...
The two of them decided to go into a high part of the tower and off into a room full of shelves and books. "Is it just me or is cold as hell in here?" The guitarist grumbled as she searched for a stepladder to help her climb the shelves and look for materials.
As Yoruko walked around the room, she spotted something on the table. As she stepped closer, she could see that it was a small note with cursive handwriting on it, reading 'algorithm: master utsuro has divine luck; utsuroshima not real; void is being lied to'. But as she tried to pick up the note and get a closer look at it, the paper crumbled to ash at just a single touch.
"What the hell..." She muttered to herself, her voice drowned out by the sound of Kanade lugging the heavy stepladder over towards one of the shelves. "I...I need to talk to Monocrow about this, or maybe Mikado. What is 'Void' and who's lying to them? And if Utsuroshima isn't real, then what are we on right now?"
"Hey, if you would stop mumbling over there, then I could really use some help over here!" The guitarist impatiently called, her voice thick with frustration.
"Sorry, hold on! I'm coming!" The hostess ran over and helped Kanade move the stepladder into place. "Jesus, that was rough! Hey, if you keep dragging this heavy thing around, then you'll soon get muscles like Shinji!"
The visual image didn't please the guitarist, and she nearly gagged. "No thats, I'll pass. I like my figure as it is, though a few inches to my height would be more than welcome..." She began to consider, an intrigued smile on her face.
"Pfft, keep dreaming." Yoruko laughed as Kanade let out a small gasp of mock offence. "Anyway, we should keep searching for materials, then we can ask Monocrow about the abnormalities about this tower."
"Agreed." Kanade nodded and went up the stepladder, passing everything useful she could find to the hostess waiting below.
When they arrived back at the Monocruise, the two girls dropped their stuff off at the dining hall before going to the empty warehouse and calling Monocrow there.
"Listen, Monocrow, there's a lot of things off about the Tower of Babel, would you mind answering why?" Kanade began. "For example, the snow falls indoors, but it doesn't pile up or leave any water on the ground. Then there's the fact that snow gets through a roof made of stone in the first place."
"And what about that note on the table? It said something really weird: 'algorithm: Master Utsuro has Divine Luck; Utsuroshima not real; Void is being lied to'. And when I touched it, it crumbled into ash." The hostess added. "Do you know why?"
"Err...well, the place does have biblical applications, so I suppose that abnormal occurrences would happen there." Monocrow slowly attempted to explain. "The place seems to block Mr. Sannoji's magic as well, so maybe it's because of a power that he cannot surpass. I haven't looked too deeply into it, but as long as it isn't actively harming my students, then I see no reason to worry about it. Maybe that note was in some code from another world."
"Well, this was a waste of time." The guitarist sighed. "I better get back to Hibiki before she starts complaining again." Kanade turned and walked towards the exit of the warehouse. With a hesitant pause, Yoruko followed her too.
Once the girls had left, Monocrow let out a sigh of relief that they had fallen for his lie. He would do everything in his power to make sure that they could not - Mikado could not - learn the truth about this world.
