Warning: trypanophobia/needles
"Fucking hell, I hate needles..." Hajime grumbled to himself when he got the announcement message through the student handbooks. Monocrow had decided to inform everyone of this new development through text in case saying it aloud would scare anyone or give them a panic attack.
Due to the horrid state of the world outside of the island, which had become more clear to the memory-erased students as the trip dragged on, Monocrow decided that every student was to get a vaccine against any diseases that may have been created. This needle was mandatory, and Hajime had immediately signed himself up to be the first to get it. If he were to stay healthy, then sometimes medicine was necessary.
Monocrow made the students have signup spots so that he could organize the needles and make sure that it worked on someone before he let them go about their day. All in all, they were spaced twenty minutes apart each, and scavenging was cancelled for the day. From what Hajime knew, he was to show up after breakfast at around eight in the morning, and then Mikado was next, and the twins would take their turns after him. He didn't remember the order after that.
As he ate his breakfast, he wasn't exactly excited to be getting a shot. After all, he had way too many of them in his childhood. But that meant that he knew what they felt like, so he could just get it over with quickly. He knew that there were plenty of books to read in the room that Hajime predicted this would take place in, so he wouldn't be bored while he waited for his twenty minutes to be up.
Finally, Hajime finished his breakfast and went to the library, reading a good book as he waited his turn. Monocrow would call everyone individually through the announcement screens so they wouldn't forget, so all Hajime needed to do was wait until Monocrow was ready.
Half an hour later, the screens turned on. "Mr. Makunouchi, please come to the security room." Monocrow announced, and the screens shut off immediately. Hajime put his book back and immediately went to the normally-locked door, which was directly next to the library on the second floor.
Hajime noticed that the door was unlocked today, and he stepped inside the Monocruise control room. Openly, it was called a 'security room' in order to hide the fact that it was originally supposed to be used to control and monitor the killing game. But ever since Mikado cancelled the plan, since Utsuro was alive all along, this place might as well be a regular security room.
Monocrow was at the monitors with a big, comfortable-looking chair, presumably for the students, and a neat box beside him full of needles and other equipment. There was an empty box beside that one, most likely for discarding used needles. The boxer commended him for the precautions for the students' health.
"Alright, please sit down there, and I'll make it quick." Monocrow simply stated, motioning with a claw to the chair. Just as he promised, when Hajime settled in and closed his eyes tightly, he felt a small pinch in his left arm for a few seconds before hearing the sound of the needle being put in the empty box. "There, all done. I put some beanbag chairs near the shelves, please spend your next twenty minutes as you will."
Hajime opened his eyes and did as he was told, picking out a history book about Ancient Greece and its mythology and collapsing into a chair. By the times he was halfway through the book, he heard Monocrow turn on the screens and announce "Mr. Sannoji, please come to the security room." Monocrow then turned it off and turned to Hajime. "You can go now."
"Alright, thanks." Hajime replied, who got up from the beanbag chair. He heard the door open as he approached the exit, and he noticed that Mikado seemed really nervous. "You good, man?" He asked.
"Ahaha, I'm just fine. This is...well, my first time getting a vaccine." The wizard chuckled as he walked over to the big chair near the controls. "I can't lie, I'm a little nervous."
"Be brave, sweetheart." Hajime chuckled as he followed to where Mikado sat down. "Do you want me to hold your hand during it? It won't take long, and this will prevent you from getting a bug."
"A bug? But I have no bugs, or glitches, or anything of the sort...ah, I'm getting delusional aren't I?" Mikado looked down at his lap as Monocrow prepared the second needle. "Yes, if it isn't too much for you, please hold my hand."
"Just close your eyes, it'll take a few seconds." The boxer reassured, and his leader followed his suggestion as he reached to grip the other's hand tightly.
Monocrow took the opportunity to quickly inject Mikado's left arm, same as with Hajime's, and then dropped the needle into the box. "There, all done. Please wait in this room for twenty minutes, and then I'll call the next person inside."
"See? I told you it wouldn't take long." Hajime reminded, helping Mikado stand up from the chair.
The wizard nodded, his mask looking a little embarrassed from his nervousness. "Ah, that seemed to be the case after all. Well, how about we go over to the chair-things over there and discuss the project we are to build with the scavenging, shall we?"
Hajime couldn't say no as he was pulled back to the beanbag chairs.
