3: skin it

Teddy and Vern had arrived and we were walking along the tracks.

Vern: what do we need a pistol for anyway
Chris: it's spooky at night. we might see a bear.
You: or a garbage can.

The three of the boys laugh and Gordon just rolls his eyes.

Vern: I brought a comb
Chris: what do we need a comb for?
Vern: well if we get on TV we wanna look good don't we?
Gordie: that's a lot of thinking Vern.
Vern: thanks

We arrive at the bridge and Teddy fake hits Vern making him flinch.

Teddy: two for flinching.

He hits Chris as we stare into the distance looking at how far the tracks really go down. When will we be back? Will we be back?

Teddy: how far do you think it's gonna be?
Chris: if we follow the tracks all the way into Harlow it'll be about 20 miles.
Gordie: might even be thirty.
Vern: why don't we just hitch hike.
You: where's the fun in that?

We all start walking along the bridges tracks for a good while so where now by the grassy hills. The boys were singing any song that would come to mind and it's not like their good singers but it was fun to listen too.

Gordie: we have to stop at the junkyard my dad said it's a safe well.
Vern: not if Choppers their.
Chris: If Choppers there well send you in.
Vern: haha very funny. Hey I'm hungry who's got the food.
Teddy: oh shit who's got the food.
You: I have crackers but we're gonna need for then that to last the night.
Teddy: did anybody else bring anything?
Chris: not me. Gordie?

He shakes his head no.

Teddy: well this is great what are we gonna do eat our feet?
Chris: you mean you didn't bring anything either?
Teddy: shit, this wasn't my idea it was Verns. Why didn't you bring something?
Vern: hey I brought the comb.
Teddy: you don't even have hair.
Vern: I brought it for you guy.
Gordie: hey hey hey! Let's see how much money we got.

We all set our stuff down and sit beside each other in a circle.

Gordie: I got a dollar two.
You: I've got two dollars
Gordie: 68 cents from Chris 60 cents from Teddy. Seven cents Vern?
Vern: I haven't found my pennies yet.
Gordie: well $4.37 isn't that bad. Quidaciolou's is by the junkyard. We can get some stuff there.
Chris: train coming.

We all grab our stuff and move off the tracks. Well all of us but Teddy who decides he was going to do a train dodge.

Chris: come on Teddy.
Teddy: I'm gonna dodge it.
You: come on Teddy this is stupid.
Chris: get off the tracks man.

The trains gets louder as it nears us and Teddy just stands their like a dumbass.

Chris: Get off the tracks Teddy do you wanna get yourself killed.
Teddy: just like the beach at Normandy.

Teddy pretends to shoot a machine gun at the train. Chris throws his sleeping bag down and runs onto the tracks. He grabs Teddy as he struggles to pull him off the tracks but they make it to the grass just as the train was passing.

Teddy: you asshole! You son of a bitch!

Vern and Gordie are holding onto the both of them pulling them away from each other. The sound of the train overpowering their words.

Chris: I'm just trying to save your life man. You trying to kill yourself. Is that what you want god dammit. You trying to kill your self?!
