Blinding lights. Dancing. Crowded room. People dancing together, it was magical. It was real. It felt like it was real to me. I don't know how I ended up here, but it was just beautiful, the beautiful gowns, the masquerade ball masks, I didn't know the faces of these people, it wasn't a place I was aware of. "This can't be real.. this isn't real..?" I was wearing this beautiful dress, as white as snow, my hair pinned back, curls behind my back as everyone stopped when they saw me, staring at me. I look away, as I step down the stairs, when I see a face, a face that I'd seen before, but I wasn't so sure. "Wake up, y/n! Wake up!" I heard voices around me, as I turn, but I couldn't see anything. I frown, as that voice draws to me again, "Jareth?" I look back, he was gone. "How is this possible? You're not here.." I was in a dream I didn't want to ever escape, this was supposed to be my life. This was who I was meant to be, I was meant to be with him. "This isn't real. This isn't real!" I look outside, but it was dark, I couldn't see anything, because this wasn't real. This didn't exist, it was inside my mind. "This is insane." I felt like I couldn't breathe, I turn around, there he was again. He was following after me. "May I have this dance?" He pulled me back, into his arms, his hand on my hip as I take his hand, everything felt like it was spinning around me, as we got closer, the music felt like it was drowning me out. "Tell me the truth. Is this real? Please tell me it's real." I sighed.
"The image you've created of me is not real, y/n. This scenario.. it isn't real. It's just a dream.. but you have the power to make it real. You can bring me back. I can come back to you. Just believe." He grabbed my hands tighter, looking into my eyes. "I- I can't- I left- you left.. god, I don't remember!" I pulled myself back, he grabbed onto my arm, "You have to bring me back, y/n. I need you. And you need me.. find me. Find a way to bring me back. I know you'll do it." I let go of him, as I ran to the edge of the room, I shut my eyes, as I fall back, before I wake up. I was inside my bedroom, breathing heavily as I remember what he told me. "I have to bring him back.." I whisper, as I look outside, when I see an Owl perched on the tree by my window, I shake my head. "This isn't real.. this isn't real! I can't do it! I can't bring you back!" I screamed, as I slam the window shut, I take a deep breath, as I fell back, I look up and the Owl was staring right at me. I take a deep breath, "No." I stand back up, as it scratched at the window. "No!" I shouted, as I shut the curtains, I had to live life without him, I had to. I couldn't let him ruin my life, not when he was going to bring me back, I didn't want to go back. The window blows open, as the Owl flutters inside, before transforming into the form of Jareth. I look up, as he wore all black. He smirked, "That wasn't very nice, y/n." He chuckled, he held his hand out to me.
"You lied to me about coming back. You knew that I'd look for you, but you were here the entire time. I never had to look far." I grab his hand, pulling myself up as his gloved fingers touch my face. "You'd know I'd come for you." He whispered. "You weren't going to stop until I came back. Until I begged you to stay.. and you just send me back there." I turn away, as he sighed. "I can't stay here, y/n. I've sacrificed a lot to come here. You have to come to the labyrinth with me." He grabbed my arm, "I won't go back there. I was trapped, Jareth. I felt like I couldn't breathe. That dream- it was just life back in the labyrinth. Trapped in a bubble with you. And I couldn't breathe. I won't go back." I look away, "You'll leave me again? Don't you love me anymore?" He shook his head. "You know what? No. No, I don't love you anymore because loving you is like breathing underwater. I just can't. It's impossible. And I won't try to." I look back, as his eyes showed how broken he was. "You'll move on. There's many more girls who wish their brother away. I'm sure you'll be happy again. And remember, loving you was like stars. Hard to reach, but so beautiful. Goodbye, Jareth. Thank you."
"I'll always love you, y/n. Farewell."
He never came back, never to return again.
(Yikes 🥺 that was sad lol)
