Chapter Six: texting

me: omg

dream: hello to u too

me: hello dream

me: how are you doing this afternoon?

dream: quite well thanks for asking

me: are you streaming today?

dream: no but george is and we're filming a video for him today also

me: damn that's kind of a lot hope it goes well

dream: it always is lmao

dream: see there's how you start a conversation

dream: now what was the reason for your omg?

me: i know i said I wasnt going to look up anything about you after i looked at your wikipedia page but oMG YOUR CAT IS ADORABLE

I click off of my texts and back over to twitter and, immediately, a bright smile fills my face. This cat is absolutely adorable. I don't know why I didn't remember that he had a cat before, but he does and - my god - she's gorgeous.

Dream texts me again and I click on the notification, returning to our conversation.

dream: patches?

me: that's her name? wow

me: you being a cat dad just makes u infinitely hotter

dream: i don't know how to respond to that

dream: u don't even know what i look like

me: eh i don't need to it's just the general vibe

me: i'm sorry i don't mean to disturb your afternoon i just wanted to share my newfound love for patches

dream: *image attachment*

I click on the image to get a better view and nearly coo. He sent a picture of his cat curled into his lap, looking up drowsily at the camera. It's funny that I like this cat; Emma has two cats that I avoid like the plague. I think it's because they are still very young and loose with their claws, whereas I can tell that Patches is a much calmer cat. She's - this picture is adorable.

me: awwwww

dream: she's very tired right now

dream: im not sure why she slept a shit ton last night

dream: it's kind of funny whenever i stream half the time she's sleeping in my lap but no one ever notices

me: that is so soft

me: just like that image of you

"Ruth!" My head shoots upwards to see that Alice is looking at me with a small smile on her face. She continues as soon as we make eye contact. "Meeting's starting. You need more time to eat?"

I glance down at my half eaten sandwich, resisting the urge to sigh; instead of eating during my lunch break, I was texting Dream. I won't hold up the office because I'm making a new friend, though, so I stand and grab my short black notebook. "No, I'll head over now."

I put my mask back on as Alice disappears from my view and grab my phone for one last time; I shouldn't leave Dream hanging. He'd sent me a response back.

dream: can't say many girls have called me soft before

me: there's a first time for anything
