The demons told me everything. They whisper in the night. This is not a threat, I promise. It's a warning, baby.

DAYLIGHT BROKE THROUGH THE trees, leaving the night behind them as the rover raced through the golden field towards Arkadia. Bellamy drove, Clarke was in the passenger's seat, and the rest of them were crammed into the back. Casey sat between Octavia and Jasper, scowling down at her hands. She was exhausted, more so than the time Jasper had kept them up at the dropship camp. She hadn't slept since she got drunk with Bellamy, and she was feeling it.
⠀⠀⠀Not only that, but Casey didn't know what they were going back to at Arkadia. Raven told them that everyone would have left by now to head for Polis and ALIE wouldn't think to check the place they'd just escaped from. That didn't wash away Casey's worries at all, given that her mom had Kane headed for Polis to align themselves with the new commander. Casey smoothed her fingers over the planes of her face, reminding herself that she could only worry about so much.
⠀⠀⠀"Becca's journal is amazing," Raven said, across from Casey, with a wide smile and a small book cradled in her hands. She flipped through the pages, looking better than anyone else felt. "At twenty-six, she found a pathway to access a human mind. That same year, she had to lock up ALIE because her answer for what was wrong with the world was 'too many people.' She was twenty-seven when it launched the bombs."
