it was late the next saturday night when james found himself in the library writing

it was a secret hobby he had taken on recently. he liked putting his feelings and thoughts into something more concrete. it made them easier to address and validate

he kept it a secret for the most part not wanting to be teased by any of the marauders. he wasnt the best at finding the right words but he learned that writing them down gave him the time to say things how he wanted to

he scribbled down his thoughts hoping to get them out of his mind. currently all he could think about was regulus. and his dark fluffy hair, and his gray eyes speckled with blue, and his pearly white smile, and his scrawny build that drowned in his clothing, and how mad he was about the boy

he was completely engulfed in his thoughts and the way his quill seamlessly wrote out his desires that he didnt even notice regulus, the person he was looney about, walking his way

"whatcha writing," regulus asked curiously joining him in the library

"poetry? i think thats what you'd call it." james replied slightly embarrassed

regulus grinned, "can i see?"

"please" reg made a pouty face

james slid the paper across the table so regulus could read it

"whats it about?" he asked as he spun it right side up so he could read it properly

james face flushed with color and heat, "uh you actually."

regulus smiled sheepishly his cheeks turning pink as well

"i wanna wake up with you
i wanna wake up feeling tired
i wanna wake up with you
i wanna lay there for awhile

but that dont change that you're a liar
a liar
hold yourself up higher and higher
cause im not buying all the things you wanna say
ive heard em all now anyway
youre such a liar
my favorite liar"

"i was expecting something.." regulus trailed off

"worse?" james chuckled

"but this, this is-its brilliant." regulus murmured, a smile taking over his face

"its like really catchy too," he added sliding it back over to james. "how song lyrics are, you know?"

"you want me to write songs about you? is my mediocre poetry not enough," james joked. "but if you want a song, ill write you an opera."

"all i meant way it would be really good if you put to a tune," regulus rolled his eyes

"well wed need more lyrics then wouldnt we?" james began getting a but cocky. "cause id say thats a chorus if ive ever seen one."

"since when did you know so much about music?" reg questioned playfully yet curious

"i room with sirius and remus, what'd you expect." james chuckled

"true," regulus agreed. "sometimes i think i can hear their music in the corridors."

"wouldnt be surprised, they like their music loud. im surprised i haven't gone deaf yet," james said

"whats with them? sirius and remus," reg asked. "i mean theyre together right?"

"madly in love," james stated. "took sirius forever to realize though."

"and remus?" reg questioned

"i think he knew from the moment he laid eyes on your brother," james answered

"theyre good together?" regulus asked

james nodded, "without a doubt. no one gets them like they get each other. kinda makes me believe in something."

"like fate?" regulus crooked his eyebrow

"yea," james shrugged. "it makes me believe some things arent coincidence or simply due to circumstance. it makes me think that the universe, some greater power, actually fights for two souls to be together."

regulus shook his head at james

"it is just so strange, you know? it feels like you could change anything and somehow theyd have found their way to each other. any life time, any reality, anything, theyre the constant." james went on

"you ever think maybe we are like that?" regulus asked curiously, avoiding eye contact

"course, you?" he replied

regulus smiled softly, "i think we found each other for a reason. whether it be circumstance or fate or divine intervention or sheer dumb luck. maybe we are meant to teach each other something or heal each other or make each other better for those to come or we are just two halves of a whole."

james smiled with adoration, this was the most regulus had ever said in one sentence

"and i dont think it matters much; why or how or what for. its nice that we have each other now, in these moments. things are beautiful because they dont last. its what beautiful about humanity. were mortals. we dont ever get two moments that are identical. we get a million moments, each unique from the last."

its a shame regulus was such a talented wizard perhaps even more terrible that his family loathed muggles because he would make a brilliant philosopher. that was all james could think in the moment

"you are spectacular, regulus black." james swooned. "honestly, truly."

regulus shook his head with a soft chuckle, "james im just a boy."

"you're far more than just a boy," james protested

"okay then, what am i?" reg bet

"you're my boy."
