silence

the words don't leave our mouths,

but rather hide in each other's eyes

fleeting glances and passing nods

aren't enough anymore, though

because the silence is too loud

two years I've spent loving you

two years settling for the quiet

it's hollow, it's empty

but it's all that there is

so I'll take it for now,

hold it close.

maybe one day we'll laugh together

about how silly the silence truly was.
