the words don't leave our mouths,
but rather hide in each other's eyes
fleeting glances and passing nods
aren't enough anymore, though
because the silence is too loud
two years I've spent loving you
two years settling for the quiet
it's hollow, it's empty
but it's all that there is
so I'll take it for now,
hold it close.
maybe one day we'll laugh together
about how silly the silence truly was.
