"A young soul born with the brightest smile" was the famous folklore of a street urchin, orphaned at a young age only to be adopted by a family who loved him as their own. Everyone assumed he was happy child, no regrets, no pain. He was known to be...
I thought we were family until I met that one soul who abhorred my existence. I still wonder what did I do so wrong for her to hate me this much?
Never did this heart know what warmth felt like until he came along and named his whole life after me.

"Ah Xian!"
Grinning at Jie's words I run towards her and hold out a beautiful lotus flower, "Shijie, this is for you!"
"Thank you, but look what you've done! You're covered in mud!" Wiping the dirt from my nose she smiles and I giggle as Ah Cheng joins me, "Jie, look I got for you two lotuses!"
Poking my tongue out we start nudging eachother's shoulders when Shijie intervenes and smiles softly, "They are beautiful like you two. Now let's head back home. I heard mother will be coming back to Lotus Pier today."
Mother as in Madam Yu! I was excited to meet her. Ah Cheng boasted so much about Madam Yu. She intrigued me. He said she has this powerful weapon that causes electricity. I wonder if she would allow me to play with them?
I wish someone had warned me before hand that this body would often become susceptible to her wrath and power of Zidian.
Clutching our hands, we flock around Shijie and happily pop up Lotus pods. This would be one of the most cherishable memories of my childhood.
Life was indeed so innocent back then.

"What did you say?" Just as we enter, a harsh voice rumbles accross the room and we hide behind Shijie. Peeking out of curiosity I watch a women in dark stark purple, domineering aura and sharp hawk like eyes swirling with fury, direct those gaze at uncle Fengmian.
"Madam Yu-"
"Stop! How dare you bring him here? Did you forget who his father is?" Sizing upto uncle she taunts, "Or is it his mother that you're unable to forget?"
What?
"Madam Yu!"
"Why? Did it hurt to hear the truth? Didn't I always ask you about your relationship with her?" Turning away from uncle, Madam Yu's face clearly showed disgust, "Tell me the truth Fengmian! Is he your love child?"
"Madam Yu!" This time hearing uncle's voice made me whimper and they both snap their heads to where we were. As her eyes land on me there was instant disdain in them. For her I was an unspeakable past and in their game my heart was a pawn.
"Ah Cheng?" Taking out her wrath of mine on him, Madam Yu bites out "Don't play with a servant's child. You're the next heir to this sect. Act like one! A royal blood shouldn't be playing around with such filth."
Ouch!
"Ah Li?" Clutching Shijie's hand, Madam Yu drags them away as I am left all alone behind in their dust.
Looking down at my muddy feet I try to cover them when a soft voice whispers my name sweetly, "Ah Xian?"
Looking up it was my uncle.
"Please don't mind your aunty. She has a good heart," with a wink he continues "just a bad temper."
Smiling for his benifit we walk away from what had just transpired, yet in my heart I always knew that this is one such memory my heart will often be reminiscing.
What did she mean by saying 'Is he your love child?'
My parents never once raised their voice against me, sadly these memories will all fade eventually. What will remain is his love the day we meet, until then agony is all I shall receive.

"Ah Xian, dinner is ready!" Hearing Shijie call out my name, I skip towards the dining room when Madam Yu's voice thunders, "How dare you sit with us and eat?"
Cowering at the sound of her wrath I look down as her comment hits my heart deep, "Once your father sat at our feet. Seems the saying is true, the fruit does not fall from from the tree. Son of a servant will always be a servant." Taunting me she walks away.
"Where is Ah Xian?" Uncle enquires and Madam Yu answers in a very cold voice, "Where he deserves to be."
Trudging away from there, even my young soul knew when it wasn't wanted. Finding myself in front of a small lotus pond I look up at the sky and the pale moon above reminds me of another pale eyes, but before I could ponder further, a small delicate voice calls out my name, "Ah Xian?"
"Shijie?" What is she doing here? If Madam Yu finds out it would be a hassle.
"Please come back with me. Have dinner with us. Just like Ah Cheng, you're now my brother too." Placing her hand in front of me to take hold off, how could I ever deny her feelings, and thus making our way back towards home we walk into the dining room.
Madam Yu was still present but even though she was around, Shijie and uncle made me feel at ease. Ah Cheng on the other was super quiet.
After dinner I nudge his shoulder, "Hey what's wrong?"
Looking solemnly away from me he says, "Ah Xian..." when out of the blue an electric current passes through me and I yelp in pain.
"Ah Xian!" Ah Cheng yells and again I am hit.
Blood oozes from my lips as we hear Madam Yu directing her command towards Ah Cheng, "Everytime you call this servant boy Ah Xian, I'll whip him. If you don't want that then call him Wei Wuxian!"
With that ultimatum she leaves and Ah Cheng sprints towards where I am and cries out, "I am so sorry. So sorry Ah Xi-" eyes widening he looks behind and quickly retreats and says, "Wei Wuxian."
I didn't know what hurt more? Madam Yu using her Zidian against me or Ah Cheng calling me Wei Wuxian!
From that day onwards Ah Cheng never referred me as Ah Xian and to me he forever became just Jiang Cheng. This was my lesson well learnt.
