Erin's POV

I walked out of journalism class, Davey by my side.

"I'm telling you Dave, blue raspberry is the best flavour of jolly rancher." I tried to shrug off my petty argument with Davey as we walked to the cafeteria, but he wouldn't let it go. "I disagree. Green apple is superior, and always will be." He retorted. I rolled my eyes and bumped my shoulder against his.

Jack came up from behind Davey and I, wedged himself between us and wrapped his arms around our shoulders as we walked. "What are we talkin' about?" He asked while looking between the two of us. "David here seems to believe that green apple is the best jolly rancher flavour, when its obviously blue raspberry." I glared playfully at Davey, who rolled his eyes with a small smile on his face. Jack shook his head. "You're both wrong. The superior flavour is cherry!" He exclaimed. Davey and I both groaned and pushed his arms off our shoulders.

When we got to our lunch table, everyone else was already seated, deep in their own conversations. I sat down beside Katherine and Davey sat on my other side. Jack went to the other side of the table across from us to sit beside Crutchie. "So Erin, what's the latest gossip in your world?" Katherine asked with a mischievous glint in her eyes, resting her chin on her hand. I rolled my eyes yet again. "Erin and Davey are having a somewhat heated argument about which jolly rancher flavour is the best." Jack answered for me. Crutchie spoke up. "It's obviously blue raspberry."

"YES, CRUTCHIE! I LOVE YOU!" I exclaimed while smirking at Davey, who only stuck his tongue out at me. This caught the attention of Race, Albert, and Jojo. "Why are we proclaiming our undying love for Charlie Morris?" Jojo asked. Jack quickly explained the dilemma. Race voted blue raspberry, while Albert voted green apple. "Nonsense." Jojo spoke. "Grape is superior to all flavours." This caused groans to erupt from the whole table.

"Elmer!!" I called him over to our side of the large lunch table. "What's up?" He questioned while kneeling at the head of the table. "We're having an argument to decide which jolly rancher flavour is the best, and the votes are tied for green apple and blue raspberry, and we need someone to end this once and for all. Which flavour is the best?" I asked him. He thought for a moment before responding "green apple" and sped away before he could get yelled at.

I turned to Davey, who had a smug look on his face. I rolled my eyes, mentally preparing myself for the spiel he was about to give me.

"I told you so." He taunted while sticking his tongue out at me. I rolled my eyes again for what seemed like the hundredth time that day. "You're an asshole." I whispered underneath my breath, hoping he wouldn't hear me. Unfortunately, he did.

He put a hand to his chest. "Did you just call me an asshole?" He asked while popping a nasty green apple jolly rancher into his mouth. I nodded. "You are an asshole. Every one of our friends are assholes, except Katherine and Crutchie." I said while munching on my lunch. "If I'm such an asshole, why are you still friends with me?" He leaned back in his chair with a small smirk on his face. I could feel my ears turn the slightest shade of pink, and I turned away from him to talk to Katherine.

During my conversation with Kath, Davey kept poking at my arm, trying to get my attention. "Erin." He whispered over and over while poking my arm, before I got annoyed and turned towards him. "What do you want, Jacobs?" I asked with a slight harsh tone. His eyes portrayed surprise for a second, and he asked: "If I'm such an asshole, why am I your best friend? Why am I special?" He kept asking over and over. I got fed up and I exploded.
